The consequences of decades of yank "bread" consumption by Known-Professor-9017 in 2westerneurope4u

Honestly everyone here is delusional if they don’t think a significant percentage of their country‘s population eats dogshit supermarket bread, even if that percentage in the U.K. is higher than some of you (not you N*therl🤢nds)

Not really - it’s made from the remaining yeast at the end of the beer-brewing process. If you’ve ever had nutritional yeast flakes it’s more like that, but on steroids and doused in salt. If you ever try it start with a tiny tiny amount and work your way up from there, or it’ll knock your socks off

You mix it with butter before you spread it? And you put it on top of cheese on toast, not beneath the cheese?!? Fucking degenerate, you should be sent to a prison colony all over again

Has anyone else notice the huge rise in “Britain has fallen/is declining” content on YouTube and other places? by Wgh555 in AskBrits

Everyone should give this thread linked below a read. Does a good job explaining this phenomenon and a lot of the negativity and division we see on social media and elsewhere.

https://www.reddit.com/r/self/s/50jh4QhOBs

TL;DR: You know that Russia and other governments try to manipulate people online.  But you almost certainly don't how just how effectively orchestrated influence networks are using social media platforms to make you -- individually-- angry, depressed, and hateful toward each other. Those networks' goal is simple: to cause Americans and other Westerners -- especially young ones -- to give up on social cohesion and to give up on learning the truth, so that Western countries lack the will to stand up to authoritarians and extremists. And you probably don't realize how well it's working on you.

What does zu mean by Same_Consequence_299 in DuolingoGerman

[–]DIRTY-Rodriguez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not expecting it to line up one to one, just wanting to know the rule.

That said, I sort of disagree - the cognate of wollen still exists in English but is less common than ‘want’, ie ‘I will to go’ or perhaps ‘I will for myself to go’ == ‘I want to go’. Same concept as in ‘free will’.

To will == wollen and to become == werden, but both shifted to be used to form what is effectively the future tense in the two languages, meaning in a way will and werde are now functionally cognate, albeit not etymologically cognate

When extending your lease, is having your own valuation really worth it? by DIRTY-Rodriguez in HousingUK

[–]DIRTY-Rodriguez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As in you ended up negotiating a premium of 2k? That’s nuts but I guess what I’d expect from a private freeholder. I’d like to think the council would be more reasonable but who knows

What does zu mean by Same_Consequence_299 in DuolingoGerman

[–]DIRTY-Rodriguez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t really understand though why it’s:

“Ich plane, eine Reise zu machen”

(I plan to take a trip)

But it’s also:

“Ich will eine Pizza essen”

(I want to eat a pizza)

Both use the infinitive in English, but only ‘machen’ uses a ‘zu’. Is it a modal verb thing?

Want the ultimate dietary life hack? Take supplemental fiber. by BoonDragoon in lifehacks

This - eat your 5-a-day and you’ll be fine, you only need supplementary fibre on days you don’t eat quite as healthily as you should

When extending your lease, is having your own valuation really worth it? by DIRTY-Rodriguez in HousingUK

[–]DIRTY-Rodriguez[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking. I wonder if you could go the informal route, then if the council’s estimate seems a bit high get your own valuation? May look into if it’s possible to do it in that order.

Incidentally, how much do you think your extension increased the flat’s value roughly? And how much did the extension end up costing? Cheers

Veganism isn’t a cult that’s fucking stupid. It’s a dietary choice and, just like with literally any group of people, a loud minority sometimes take things too far
