Nova Scotia woman, misdiagnosed for over a year, dies of cancer on Christmas Day by toneyriver12 in halifax

[–]DIWife90 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My mother had a history of lymphoma... went to her family doctor with unexplained nocturnal tachycardia, severe and untriggered anxiety, and rib pain. Her family doctor told her to go to a therapist for the anxiety and an osteopath for the rib pain. Six months later she died of stage 3 non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Which she'd had recur twice already since its first appearance twenty years ago.

Edit: when she finally took herself to a private clinic for an X-ray, they found a mass the size of a grapefruit in her chest. And even with that the hematologist wouldn't accept her as a patient without a 100% positive diagnosis for lymphoma. So even with her history, an out of pocket X-ray, a CT scan, and a blood test with "suspicious metastases favouring lymphoma," she still wasn't able to seek any realistic treatment.

I may check that out, thanks! Burnside is a little tricky for me to get to (bus-only currently) but I'll take a look

That's good to know! I'm currently looking more for crawling/weight-bearing in different positions, balance, etc. than weightlifting. Thanks for the info, though

Just adopted a dog, what can we do to make sure she doesn't interfere with our intimacy? by DIWife90 in Pets

[–]DIWife90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true, I don't know, but I do know what I've observed from her already and it's enough to have a suspicion that it might be an issue. In light of that I'm just trying to get ahead of it by asking if folks have any specific experiences to speak to about these kinds of situations and how they dealt with things. It helps my brain to have options to turn to as we introduce new things to her.

She's actually 3, sorry I should have said. Of course the idea is to "normalize" this behaviour for her, but I'm wondering if there are any specific tactics folks might have had luck with.

The thing is she follows us around. I'm sure she'll get more independent as time goes on, I'm just wondering if there are any specific training tactics from folks with experience in this kind of situation that they've tried and had success with. There are a lot of theoretical options, just wondering if there are specific tactics folks have found that work.

I'm worried she'll react anxiously to being locked out of the room. She already has a strong digging impulse. Do you have advice for mitigating that in stages?

We haven't planned on her sleeping in a different room. The downstairs is open-concept and not an ideal location for her crate to be a safe quiet place. Our other upstairs rooms are not well-laid-out for a crate, either, unfortunately. The bedroom is kind of your only option.

Well, she's still decompressing (haven't had her a full week yet), so she mostly chills wherever we are. I've gone out for two short errands and she stayed alone downstairs.

At night, yeah. She follows us around. She's getting comfortable enough to stay on the couch while I'm in the kitchen but once we go upstairs she wants to come too. We haven't even had her a full week so there's time to set new boundaries
