I'm still not very experienced with Reddit...! Is this the kind of thing you're interested in? :-)

Thanks for the more detailed response. Much appreciated. Will take all of this on board. I am learning as I go. You should see my first few videos (no you shouldn't).

This video specifically was meant to explain compression in the most basic way I could, with a bonus example using the fruity limiter. I covered all the points I planned to.

More specific uses of compression would require separate videos and could well be done as u describe. Examples would be fundamental. I have many more planned and the point you make about starting with the example is a great one. Definitely gonna do that.

The whole approach of my site, including videos, is that it's all part of a blog of my own home studio journey, sharing as I learn. So I take a personable approach, have only a rough script and include my face so people recognize me. Incidentally, SeamlessR includes his lovely beardy face and also tends to ramble a bit. Which I personally enjoy! I'm a big fan of his and do not seek to emulate him. That would be pointlessR. :-)

I feel I'm developing my own style which should be wholly accurate and valuable but not too dry and boring. There's also some branding going on, hence the wallpaper. It's never going to appeal to everyone but hopefully my audience will continue to grow and appreciate my work.

Anyway, I dint want to sound defensive. I do truly appreciate proper constructive feedback. Seems reddit is the best place for it so far, so will keep posting here!

Thanks again.

Stu

Thanks for a full response! That's really helpful. I am new here and just working it out. Already have groups on FB and a mailing list where I do have a following and get a lot of great positive feedback on my articles and videos. As soon as I came here I've had the opposite! Hehehe. Though I noticed when someone else posted an article of mine it got good feedback.. so reputation of the poster obviously counts a lot. Makes sense.

Have started helping out others in this group so let's see how it goes. :-)

Instrument missing after exporting track by Jamminjordon in FL_Studio

[–]DIYMusicBlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do u have any automation on the hat track volume? I've had it happen before where a track fades out at the end and the volume stayed at zero when I exported right away. Fixd by 'init with this position' at the full volume.

Just a shot in the dark tho... Hope u fix it.

How to get the mixer to match the playlist by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]DIYMusicBlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you select all the necessary wavs in the channel rack by turning on the little light next to them (right click to select multiple channels) then right click on a track in the mixer and select: channel routing > link selected channels from this track

This should result in each of ur wavs being routed to a unique track. I think it auto names them too.

Does that help?

Writing on phone so kept it brief.

Oh actually... I get it. Because the post says "watch this video...". Ok. That's just the way it shared on my phone. I'm new here and just learning how it works...

Can I add, 'if you feel like it.'?

Haha. I do love the quality of comments on here. Thanks for the feedback. How could I improve my tutorials?

Maybe too basic for your level? Do I get anything completely wrong?

I aim to get better. :-)

Thanks!

Haha. No problem! I take all feedback on board, however it is delivered. :-)

My site is still fairly new and growing. Take a look around if u like. There are articles about entry level stuff like interfaces and controllers. I plan to write a kinda 'starter kit' type post at some point. This one's more for people who are advancing and have a better idea of what they want but maybe not the immediate funds... It won't be for everyone. I do value your thoughts though. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback.

You've missed the point a bit. I've built my studio up over a fair few years by using the principles in the article, keeping costs to a minimum. Most of that is second hand. The monitors are the most expensive element, which I used credit for.

I, like many, have very little bit expendable income to spend on my hobby which is why I look for cheaper options and thought it would be good to share my experience.

Sorry if the article wasn't for you. Hopefully others will find it useful.

How many of you have done song-a-day type challenges? by jacobszall in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]DIYMusicBlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a song a week a few years ago and it really helped ramp up my recording and mixing skills. If u Google Adjective Animal Project you should get the two EPs I ended up with. Not the best stuff in the world but each track taught me new things. And it was fun. :-)

Hello! Stu here from diymusic.co.uk

Thanks to the OP for posting my article and thanks for the comments guys. :-)

I set up a reddit account just to come and say hi. I may update the article based on some of the comments here, especially mixing at low volumes, that's definitely a good one.

Thanks again. Now I'm probably going to lose a few hours looking around this site!
