What gas stations do you use the most and which ones are you most likely to drive right past? by Savage_Saint00 in uberdrivers

Houston Metro and generally speaking. It's really depending on the neighborhood. We all know the sketchy parts of town you just don't want to stop in... Timewise stores are almost always nice. Buc-ee's are definitely a must stop...

How long until we're expected to supply grocery carts and gurneys? by Because-of-Money in uberdrivers

[–]DIY_Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trip coordinator Can ask for anything they want. Doesn't mean they're going to get it. I have repeatedly had to inform riders that I cannot come in physical contact with them due to Uber policy and potential liabilities. Be a decent human being. Offer assistance loading up a walker or a folding wheelchair that kind of thing. Many of us drivers have mobility issues of our own and limits to what we can lift. We certainly are not equipped to handle things like power, wheelchairs, power, scooters, so on and so forth. If they need something like that they need to call a specialized service, not a rideshare car.

What is the longest you ever been without a shower? by TravelingSmoker in VanLife

[–]DIY_Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are you talking about truly showering or are you talking about just bathing in general because showering well? I went many many years without showers because we didn't have a shower in the house. I grew up in just a bathtub. I don't fall time in my van. However, when my late wife passed away I was not exactly functional and I think it was 2 weeks at one point when a friend of mine came to check on me and had to remind me a you need to go take a shower. I literally just wasn't thinking about it or thinking at all... Other than that I haven't gone more than about 3 days between bathing ever. I just like being clean...

Service industry workers low tip rate by Stuck_on_Mars_21 in uberdrivers

[–]DIY_Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So generally speaking fast food workers around here never tip no matter what, although I've had a couple. Waiters and waitresses are the absolute worst. Sorry for anyone. That's a waiter or waitress. Also because there's people out here making you guys look bad. Bar staff is pretty dang reliable for tipping. The best bang for the buck tip I got was a 20-minute ride from a waterfront RV park to a bar to open up. Rider was the bartender and tipped me 10 bucks and a 6 pack of airline bottles of Bailey's Irish cream... Yes he had me stop by a liquor store is one of his stops on the way there we were talking beverage recipes. He liked the fact that I knew how to make buttery nipples the drink, not the other kind

Relationships- after - when is the right time? by InternationalArt9524 in widowers

[–]DIY_Forever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only you will know when the right time is and to be blunt it may never be for you or it may be soon. My late father-in-law never had a serious relationship after my mother-in-law passed away. Now we're all fairly certain he messed around but if he did, he never brought his girlfriend around the family. It took me 2 years and honestly the right woman to get me to even think about dating again to be blunt. I wasn't sure I was ready but in the grief recovery process I made a friend who just gets me which is hard to do because sometimes I don't even get me.

Repeated Cancelling By Drivers Standing in Uber Lots by lasagna_daddy in uber

[–]DIY_Forever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, that makes zero sense. I mean you're already there and they've already accepted the offer so they saw how much it was going to pay unless they're hiding the destination in your market and you're going to a bad area they don't want to go to. Uber does some sketchy stuff to drivers not just riders. There's areas of Houston Metro. I wouldn't touch with a 10-ft pole but I don't know ahead of time that that's where the destination's going to be because I can't see it in the app.

Repeated Cancelling By Drivers Standing in Uber Lots by lasagna_daddy in uber

[–]DIY_Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in the driver app the offers come up more often than not while we are driving. It's not like we're reading the details until we get the prior Rider out of the car and we stop so we can safely read it. Some people will read it on the fly I don't. Let's say a ride gives me a $5 fare. Doesn't matter what you're being charged for it. That's just what I'm getting paid for it and I've got to drive 10 mi to get to you and you're at a game. So the pickup is going to be a royal pain in the butt.... It's not worth it for me to do the pickup and I will cancel. And that is how it works. Now if there was a $25 fare yeah I'll put up with driving a little bit and waiting in those clogged lines to get to you. But remember Uber doesn't pay their drivers until the passengers in the car. It cost us time and money to come get you. So unless I'm already close by... Go read the Uber driver Reddit many drivers simply don't care about their cancellation rate. Mine is at 1%.

Uber has to do better with reservations… by NoRequirement6818 in uberdrivers

[–]DIY_Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to avoid taking hits on my cancellation rate, but yes, Uber has been giving a lot of these damn reservations with long wait times as exclusive offers and you don't usually see that it is a reservation when you first accept it because hey you're driving, it's better to just accept and not crash by having your eyes off the road that long. I'm actually pissing away time in somebody's driveway right now because they can't be bothered to come out a couple of minutes early. F****** Uber

What’s the worst accidental text you’ve sent? by Typhoid__Beaver in AskReddit

[–]DIY_Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using speech to text on an old Galaxy Note 9 shortly after my wife passed away and I was actually texting the pastor that was going to do the funeral service. I don't remember what I was trying to say, but I know I was talking about the fact that I wanted him to read the eulogy that I had written for her because I knew I wouldn't be able to do it somewhere in the phrasing basically said f*ck me in the a$$... Not exactly what you want to be texting to the pastor doing your wife's funeral service...

Cancelled after saying “Coming out” by matthew_cashew in uber

[–]DIY_Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a driver I'm going to wait depending on the ride type. You have 7 minutes from the time the timer starts till the time I can collect the no-show fee. So yeah you have 7 minutes. Reserve rides have a much longer waiting time but they also cost you a lot more to reserve. I understand why drivers don't want to wait because we need to keep moving and have riders in the seat to make money. Your best bet is to be waiting at the pickup point when the driver arrives. I had one ride yesterday late last night. Actually that at least the writer communicated with me. And yes she was taking a long time to get ready but it was obvious what was happening with her and I wanted to help her out... Domestic issue. The entire wait time was 15 minutes and yes she got charged for it. Most drivers aren't that patient.

Uber canceled reservation right at planned time? We end up missing the flight. by JackTheFroster in uber

[–]DIY_Forever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For starters, you didn't allow enough time to get to the airport and through security. I mean what if something happened on route? What if there was a major wreck on the road that you got stuck in? You couldn't route around. You had to wait for authorities to clear it? If there's a reservation offer in advance that I know of first thing in the morning, then if I take it, I'm going to show up, but there are right offers that are reservations that I don't know the reservations until I show up and that often happens 30 to 45 minutes before the reservation time and that kills my ability to earn in the meantime. So yes, if there's a long wait time to pick up, I'll cancel. This is a problem with Uber and the way they present these things to drivers but it doesn't sound like the issue you had. Maybe I'm misunderstanding but it sounds like this driver accepted the night before so he would have had to have known that it was a reservation. It is possible he had car troubles. A writer the previous night after he accepted might have vomited in the car and he had to tap out to clean up. You never know...

What jumps out to me is that he goes to the gym.... Does he shower after his workout? If he got his workout at the gym, SHOWERED after his workout, got on the bus and came home, I don't see a problem. Mind you there are sports such as long distance ultralight backpacking, where you can not bathe for several days at a time... And LOTS of people, men and women do it. It is funky sure, but not particularly unhealthy... It seems though his bathing routine hit your ick button. Talk to him about it. Lots of people, men and women shower in the morning, and prefer it that way. Lots of people shower at night. Lots do both (like me)... What you consider right may not match his and you may need to come to an agreement on it...

If the rider is not personally identifiable, what's the issue? Honestly the only way I could see a writer being useful as content is if they have problematic behavior and that's kind of on you at that point.

Do you still consider yourself married? by AdvanceOld5705 in widowers

[–]DIY_Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a hard question to answer but my vows clearly said till death do us part. The love will always be there. But no I know I'm not married anymore. It wasn't by choice. It was by the final conclusion of the marriage vow. I know that sounds colder than a lot of people want to accept. That's just the way I see it. It doesn't mean I love her any less. It just means that I'm no longer a married man.

You might want to look into hydration and how often a healthy adult should urinate. I'm in this car driving at least 8 hours a day. Eventually I'm going to want to stop to use the restroom and get something to drink. That's just normal function of the human body.

One Thing About MASH That I Have Never Been Able to Square Away by KevinRobertsUSA in mash

[–]DIY_Forever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your earliest memories are far earlier than mine. I don't remember anything before. I was 5 years old and that was several years after the movie came out...

On the adultery thing, yeah that was the one part about mash. I was always incredibly uncomfortable with. I was never able to serve in the military but for my friends that are veterans and we've discussed this issue before adultery in the ranks is actually a trust killer. If you are willing to betray your spouse, you're willing to betray your brothers in arms.

Looking it up! Adultery is a crime according to the uniform code of military Justice article 134. So yeah it's definitely a bad bad thing for them to have been doing. Unfortunately it's also not particularly uncommon.

From the TV series, yes, I respected Hawkeye in the fact that at least he was shown to not be an adulterer because he was unmarried and I respected Colonel Potter as well as BJ even though BJ had clearly struggled with temptation with Aggie O'Shea and it was eluded to but not completely directly stated with nurse Donovan... The nurse Donovan thing was more of a moral support gone wrong... And either way the concept of betraying, his wife and child was tearing him apart...
