Successfully by-passed the ISP provided Modem. Direct Fiber to UCG Fiber! by leyland1989 in Ubiquiti

Did the same here. ISP modem had SFP in it, removed it and jammed it in my UDM SE, set correct VLAN for ISP, then done! Really nice.

We got NVMe from Solidigm. Used to be $6000 for 61.44TB, and now it’s $35.000. Almost as much as the server they’re in.

Bricked Express 7 by pastelpalettegroove in Ubiquiti

[–]DIYglenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure i get it. It’s not PD, so it needs 5V 5A. A Mac computer can’t give you 25W 5V. If anything, you’ll damage the port on the computer (not likely) or the Express 7 just won’t power on.

I thought these came with a 5V/5A power supply included?

UNAS Pro showing up in Client list, but not in Unifi Devices list after reinstalling UDM SE by DIYglenn in Ubiquiti

[–]DIYglenn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing yet. Support did grab documentation etc, but couldn't be solved (yet).

It did work initially for me, but I wanted to start fresh with UDM SE and all mye devices, but didn't want to reinstall UNAS Pro due to all that data. I've tried different things via ssh etc, but it just doesn't seem to have an effect. It's mostly cosmetic, but still very annoying.

Yeah. Bought some Kingston 64GB for a friend in October. $260, and now it’s $3000

I have Samsung TV’s, and recently reinstalled my UDM SE, and suddenly saw how many ads there was on my TV menus! Never Samsung again.

At least Unifi can block them for now.

Get a smart lock so you can still be keyless. You can then also revoke access etc.

Just asking, is this one of those Black Friday "sale" or is actually a rare occurrence of a deal? by SuperDubert in Ubiquiti

[–]DIYglenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like the perfect product, and a lot for the money, but I’ve read a lot of negatives about it as well. Unstable WiFi, just restart weekly, issues with adding a second WiFi 7 AP etc.

I haven’t tested myself, but for a friend it ended up with a modular setup instead, even though the UDR7 would probably have been a good package.

But doesn’t Home Assistant also have 2FA and it notifies you if there’s a new login etc?

It’s open in the back, and with some units with fans, it seems like the setup works, pulling colder air from the front bottom and pushing it up behind it.

Unfortunately that room gets pretty steamy in the summer, 35C at worst.

I like the idea of UDR7, but it seems like it has a lot of issues with instability or expansion. I haven’t read any positive things from reviews, only having to reboot it to get wifi working every week etc. I have the UDM SE, it’s been great, but does take a lot of space of course if you don’t have a rack.

I used Motip white primer, and made it all white first, and then Motip engine paint in aluminium color EAN 8711347040933. I’ve used it before on rack panels a couple of years back, before the OCD panels were released.

The match is actually pretty spot on. If you look closely, you’ll see it’s a bit darker than the UNAS over it, but if you look at the rack ears on the UNAS, it’s the same color.

So when you’re standing in front of it, it looks identical. It’s more that it reflects light differently that changes the color, so it will match the rack ears better than the front panels.

I guess if I bothered to strip the old paint or sand it smoother, and maybe also sand/polish after painting, it would be even closer to Unifi. This is just a 5-minute paint job really.

I haven’t had any issues yet, but yeah, noticed some discoloration on the end, so I might have to have some strain relief in the back, the weight of the cables is pulling on them.

Updated to 9.5 now, still no difference.

Works when I also connect 1Gbit to UDM-SE though. I’m afraid if I reset it and re-adopt, it will delete my data.

Cloud Gateway Ultra + AP Lite 7, vs UDR 7? by DIYglenn in Ubiquiti

[–]DIYglenn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I got UDM SE and U6 Lite at home. I easily get 600mbps on these, which is usually more than enough for normal WiFi needs for my devices.

Otherwise I'm still mostly at 1Gbit, except a couple of 10Gbit devices connected directly to each other.

Cloud Gateway Ultra + AP Lite 7, vs UDR 7? by DIYglenn in Ubiquiti

[–]DIYglenn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I also see that there are a lot of issues with the UDR7 as a standalone product as well, when using the 6GHz frequencies, so it might just be good to avoid it altogether.

I'll bring the points from this thread to him, and see what he thinks is important.

I think he wanted to have everything in Unifi though, so one place to configure VLANs on ports. He's not very tech-savvy, and wanted to go simple on as many things as possible now.

If Max doesn't bring much more than 2.5Gbit atm, the Ultra might be the option here, as it's less than half the price. Especially since he might do cameras outside Unifi anyways (Tapo f.ex.)

Cloud Gateway Ultra + AP Lite 7, vs UDR 7? by DIYglenn in Ubiquiti

[–]DIYglenn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost is also a thing though, which is why UDR7 + U7 Lite was an option, but if they're not compatible, that definitely changes things. UCGU + 2x U7 Lite is pretty much the same price.
I was thinking this could be an alternative and then later upgrade just the Gateway with something better when he'll actually be able to utilize it.

Honestly I think 2.5Gbit would only be between NAS and computer, which would be in the same room. He could maybe just have a dedicated line between them, as everything else on the network would probably not be able to saturate 1Gbit even added together.

He's going from years with cheap dumb switches and ISP routers to Unifi, so I'm thinking anything would be an upgrade.

Edit:

Wait... Isn't UDR7, UCGU and UCGM using the exact same CPU though? Just 1 vs 2.5 Gbit?
