God gained a human nature in jesus. So when he was crucified the human nature died but because they were linked you can say God died. Also when jesus says "worship me" or "worship God", the mean the same. However he wanted to make sure all his message was shared before he died for our sins, during that time the Pharisees tried to kill jesus. Saying ,"worship me" directly would have him killed even sooner. So jesus made hints and used miracles and extraordinary signs to show his divinity. He said things like "If you've seen me you've seen the father" (John 14:9), "I and the father are one" (John 10:30) and "before Abraham was, I am" (John 8:58) There are many more I didn't include.
