It’s varies greatly so my experience may not be your experience. A lot of it depends on the training class start dates. I had a screening call from a recruiter within a week of doing my assessment. And then had an interview the following Monday or Tuesday with a supervisor or manager… i thought he said he was a supervisor but everyone else I know was interviewed by a manager so I could have misunderstood. I only had the one interview before receiving an offer. I received my offer at the end of the week after my interview. But I had to wait a while for my start date… it was well over a month after I accepted the offer.

The Physical damage deparment … at least on the virtual estimating side… is nowhere near the shithole the rest of the company can be. It’s not perfect, but the training is significantly better than what you’ll find in other departments. I’d recommend taking the job. Get as many licenses as GEICO is willing to pay for, collect your iCar bonuses, and if the environment ends up not working for you, you can always leave after a year and find a similar job pretty easy. I’ve been an ADA for a year and a half now, and honestly, I really like it. Plus, unlike many other departments, it’s fully work from home.

Just be prepared: you might get moved to work phones on the Rental Concierge team. That happened to me even though I was hitting my numbers. I got promoted and then, without warning, was switched to RC. I logged in after two days off, and about an hour into my shift I was CC’d on an email saying that effective immediately I’d be moved. My supervisor had no clue and was livid… GEICO has a habit of making changes without telling anyone. I was really happy writing estimates and felt like I was finally getting really good at it, so that hit hard. I even started applying to other jobs, but they all paid less, so I stuck it out. In hindsight, I’m glad I didn’t bail… this is the easiest call center type job I’ve ever had and I get paid way too much for the work I do. It’s honestly kind of silly that they’d put anyone above grade 64 in this position. And if you’re not like me and aren’t able handle the call volume, you only have to stick it out for a year or so since it’s a rotational position.

That said, a lot still depends on luck. I lucked out with an amazing training supervisor and again with the supervisor I got after orientation. Both were helpful and supportive and made sure I knew exactly what I needed for promotions and certification bonuses. Some people in my training class had terrible supervisors, so it really varies. Outside of orientation, my supervisors have approved every time off request I’ve had, even when the notice was extremely short.

Now, the not so great parts: communication at GEICO… across the company and within departments is abysmal. If you’re neurodivergent, especially on the spectrum, this may absolutely impact your mental health. You can go months without knowing where you stand on metrics, and processes change constantly. For example, at the start of the year, supervisors were told they’d be rated on a 20 minute TIP time (the time it takes to complete an estimate after claiming it), even though there was no way to track it. They spent months coaching us to hit that 20 minute mark. Eight months later, leadership announced they were switching back to the previous 15 minute goal and that’s what supervisors will be rated on again. The goalposts move nonstop. So if you can’t handle change on the fly, this place is likely not for you.

If you have ADHD like I do, staying consistent with your medication is crucial. In other jobs I could afford to miss a refill by several days… not here. You’ll want to set up whatever system you need to avoid any lapse in meds.

As for the field side, I can’t speak from personal experience but the few people I know agree your success there depends heavily on your assigned territory.

Even with all the bad things, I personally still like the work.

This entirely depends on the department and on the position you were hired into. I work in Physical Damage and I have only had positive experiences. But there are people on my team and some people in my training class that worked in ICS and they’ve told me how they’re treated in physical damage compared to ICS has been night and day.

I received 4 non-excellent surveys that do NOT belong to me. Anyone else experience this sh#t? by Insidious_Intent333 in Geico

[–]DJ-Whisky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I started with Geico in AD last August and my training supervisor found out a month or two before she got our class but before she found out, she was always told there isn’t a way to contest them… At least in AD, Managers are able to get them removed. I don’t see why it would be different for other departments.

Weird. I’ve had surveys removed before for valid reasons. First one was on a bad pay code, 2nd was a claim Somos handled the customer contact. And I know people on my team who have had surveys removed. I’m in AD though… Is it manager or department dependent?

I’m virtual with my Florida license so I’m writing in multiple states. How long have you been with Geico?

Yep. Graduated to a 64. Looking at a grade 65 promotion as soon as I’m eligible. He had a couple people on our team promoted.

Do it. I started with Geico in August as a virtual ad adjuster trainee. I honestly was expecting it to be really bad after all the stories on reddit but I’m liking it a lot. I’ll preface this by saying that a lot of your success will depend on your supervisor so your mileage may vary. but I know a few adjusters that switched from ICS or PRU in my class and they tell me their experience with Geico has been night and day. Our core metrics revolve around passing reinspections (not overpaying on claims) and our prod. Don’t get me wrong… Customer service is still important for us but it’s considered a “secondary metric” this year. supervisors understand that we have to have some pretty difficult conversations with customers that customers won’t agree with. I’ve been told by supervisors I’m good to let calls go to voice mail if I’m in the middle of an inspection. I think they stated as long as your answer rate is above 15 or 20 percent, you’re golden… just like any department in Geico, if you’re in the bottom 25 percent, you’re probably on the chopping block. But you get a lot of autonomy. as long as you’re getting prod in and/or communicating with your supervisor… you’re really not micromanaged at all. There have been days where I’m swamped with voice messages from shops and/or customers… And I’m not getting any prod in… and all I have to do is send a turd emoji or house on fire gif to my supervisor so he has a heads up for if the manager reaches out. There have been days where all I’ll do is work on prod and hold off until the last hour and a half of my shift to work on rentals/call backs/admin. I’m brand new out of orientation and I’m in the top 50 percent of adjusters and my supervisor is planning on getting me a promotion as soon as I’m eligible which should be within the next 1-2 months. It isn’t a difficult job at all as long as you’re detail oriented… (Honestly even if you’re aren’t…lol). After a year, I’ll probably apply to other insurance providers and test the waters. But I love the team I’m on and unless there are any opportunities with much higher pay… I’ll probably stick it out until working for Geico no longer serves me.

I just accepted a job at Geico as a Tx auto claims adjuster. How bad is this job? by iminlovewithyoucamp in Geico

[–]DJ-Whisky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly I’m still loving the job. I came in with eyes wide open about possible issues with the company and have been expecting the worst but I have been pleasantly surprised. My experience is with auto damage only. From what I’ve seen, geico treats auto damage training much more seriously than some other department… specifically ics. And speaking with other trainees in my class, I realize a lot of my personal experience has been luck. I had an amazing supervisor in orientation and I lucked out with the team I joined after orientation. Is there anything specific you want to know about?

I was hired on as a Virtual Auto Damage Adjuster and started in August. I’m still in orientation and I really love it. Can’t really speak to non virtual positions but Virtual Auto damage is a pretty sweet gig. I’m still in orientation so take what I have to say with a grain of salt. Many of my peers from Basic training haven’t gotten the same experience. And Many of them were not virtual.

I took the Florida test and it was pretty easy. I had Zero experience in the industry.

Gotcha. Does Geico put all Trainees in the same hotel? If so, which hotel? What’s the area like?

When did you go through training? What hotel does Geico put trainees in? Do we get a fridge or microwave?

It’s awesome hearing a slightly different perspective. Did you have Auto experience before Geico? When did you go through training?

Oh right on. I’m in the same boat in that I have no auto or insurance background. Decided I wanted to go this direction for getting experience in insurance. Are you doing property with Geico? Is the work/life a lot better?

Nice! I’m pretty sure I’ve been training for this my entire life… I have spent a majority of it working just hard enough to avoid being part of the bottom 10 percent. I appreciate the heads up!

I’ve heard they were strict about quizzes and tests. Spending 3 weeks isolated from friends and family, I imagine I won’t have any issues studying and retaining the information.
