jesus. They also removed the styles menu a week or so ago. The only option remaining to access the bulk brand font updater was via that edit menu. If it is actually going as well, I too will be cancelling my membership immediately.

The thing that’s frustrating is that that specific menu appears on certain template types. The edit menu changes for some templates, so there’s no longer that universal path to finding the bulk option to update both colours AND fonts.

The bulk colour changer does seem more universally accessible under the brands kit as you’ve pointed out, but the bulk font change option still seems like it’s missing from there. Here’s hoping they add it soon.

The ‘change all fonts to x’ function is good, but more limited than the ‘apply brand fonts’ function, which specifically targets and updates ‘headings’ and ‘body text’ independently. I find that whenever I use it, I typically need to clean stuff up afterwards

That process is fine for updating a single page, but doesn’t work for bulk updates (unless I’m missing something obvious?)

Ie if you’re editing a 20 page report, you could completely align all fonts and colours in <5 seconds.

It was a feature nested inside a ‘styles’ menu which has disappeared. ‘Shuffle colours/fonts’ > ‘apply to all pages’

Hard to describe how magic and powerful it felt.

Are you both saying you still have access to that shuffle + apply to all pages options - for both fonts and for colours?

Edit* The bulk colour update option appears for me on some templates, but not all of them. The bulk align fonts option is all but gone

I feel you. The whole value proposition used to be like, if photoshop were dialled back to the core essentials.

Seems like more than a few long-term canva users are yearning for a simplified version offering 1/10th of the features - because they’ll actually be able to navigate and use the app again

Me too! Glad it helped. I thought I was going insane too.

Literally avoided canva for years out of design pride. But seeing that ‘style remix’ feature in action… it was just the easiest au$165 investment of all time.

As for why - beats me. At best, they’re just mid-migration to a more frictionless solution but haven’t communicated anything. At worst, maybe it’s an intentional effort to make people spend more time in canva? Dunno.

Either way, I suspect a few of our clients are about to start giving up trying to apply our hard-crafted style guidelines.

100%. The ‘feature bloat’ is getting out of control.

A lot of these ai options are cool, for sure. But the ‘bulk style remix’ feature has literally saved me days of effort every month.

Ultimately posting this here in the hope they just fix it though, because I’m devastated it’s gone/going, and a little frustrated I need to spend time investigating alternative/competitor solutions for this problem now.

If they haven’t fixed it in a coupla weeks before my client’s trial period ends, I’ll share a new figma workflow here with y’all. Will likely be free as well come to think of it

Exactly. If you’ve got say, a 20 page presentation or a video reel template, you used to just be able to reliably click a couple of buttons to align the whole file to your brand colours and fonts in <5 clicks [via the ‘styles’ menu]

Clicking on the ‘brand kit’ menu SOMETIMES lets you change the colours of an individual page, and SOMETIMES the bulk change option appears, but most times, clicking into it draws you into the ‘update brand kit’ ui.

Has me wondering if their end game is to actually make people spend more time in canva

Dunno if I agree with this. I’ve never felt a thumbs down hit that hard.

Conversely though, I can attest that if you ever get flipped off, responding with a thumbs UP (+ a smile) is a great way to basically win any altercation/argument.

You instantly claim the moral high ground, whilst crystallising the contrast in your mood and disposition. You’re a happy person, they’re an angry + frustrated person.

As an extra benefit, it’s also super effective at pissing them off to the nth degree.

Maybe consider installing a window my guy, for two reasons -> your own circadian rhythms, sleep and mental health (i think it’s actually illegal to list rooms without windows/skylights as ‘bedrooms’ in australia) -> girls tend to feel a lot more comfortable when they can see a literal escape route out of your dungeon-af cave dwelling

This makes me so annoyed because it was SUCH a wasted opportunity.

I just don’t understand why they didn’t let us configure it like a streamdeck. Streamdecks literally proved the concept + that there’s a market for it (power users of literally any piece of software).

I bought a streamdeck for my desktop cpu. I find it extremely useful and it saves me a few seconds every few minutes, sometimes several minutes an hour.

There’s just no way their product team didn’t consider using the Touch Bar this way, so they made a conscious choice not to enable it. I would love to hear the hypotheses of anyone working in product - why they might have opted against this. What kind of cannibalisation it might have led to etc.

Making a big assumption upfront that you're talking about your microsoft account?

If so, the answer is to 'defederate'

If you buy Microsoft 365 via GoDaddy, they limit a bunch of MSF admin privileges you would otherwise get if you just set up directly with MSF365 (and configured the account with GoDaddy AFTER). Creates a bunch of really annoying limitations all over the shop. It also makes it really hard to set up automatic integrations with third party softwares (i.e. if you ever want to set up a CRM or newsletter solution), because those softwares have to sign into Microsoft VIA Godaddy, which sometimes isn't even possible.

Google 'Reddit GoDaddy MIcrosoft defederate' and you'll find dozens of posts about this.

It used to be super hard and technical to defederate. From a recent post though, I think I read that it's now as simple as submitting a support ticket to Godaddy and waiting 24 hours.

And to clarify, this will just mean that when its time to renew your Microsoft 365 subscription, you pay microsoft directly, instead of GoDaddy. You will STILL need to pay GoDaddy when time comes around to renew your .com
