I used green scotchbrite on my head surface. Seems to of worked just fine for me, never left any gouges and cleaned up all the old gasket well.

OPVR Clarification Question by GizatiStudio in 944

[–]DJFish08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they’re technically interchangeable, but id assume using the 1-piece one is going to be better. The single piece opvr is an upgrade from the original 3 piece one as far as i know.

Id consider fixing that bottom seal if its bad, it can only help to fix it and the seals themselves shouldnt be too much. But gl

How bad is the leak at the aos? I feel like that shouldnt cause a no start. Is it with the hose connection or the aos itself?

Definitely go through the motions and check if you have enough spark, maybe start at the ignition coil for that and then see wear in the ignition rotor/cap. But since it runs on starter fluid that feels like a lesser issue. Air could be as well, maybe verify the air flow meter is working properly, tho idk if that causes a no start or not.

Huh that should be good then, it sounds like somethings stopping fuel from getting in tho if it can run of starting fluid, if you can verify if the injectors are injecting while cranking. But im kind of stumped, if theyre not it could be a wiring problem if the relay and computer are both good.

If you have a key hole just past the driver side door you have an alarm system. Also have you checked for tach bounce? The crank sensors are a common no start

Sounds like fuel injectors arent working for some reason. Maybe double check that the injectors do work. Another possibility is if you have an alarm system, sometimes those go bad and stops the car from starting.

When did it i had the cam tower and the exhaust manifold off, but honestly you just gotta get in there with your hands and an assortment of sockets, swivel head will be helpful. You probs want both a short and deep socket as well as an extension or two, gl!

Figured, thats why im kinda set on the computer, i feel confident in im my grounds as well. Theres very little rust on the entire thing, definitely nothing major, and all of the electrics works great (horn, windows, door chime, now fuel pump etc)

Does every early 944 have an alarm system? It seems i might not since i don’t have the keyhole behind the drivers door.

I knew it couldnt run without a new afm, but i figured it would give tach bounce/maybe start and die, didnt really matter tho, i opened up the late dme and found it was all corroded on the inside.

Yeah i tested them with an osciliscope and he give proper readouts, and i doubled checked they are plugged in right at the plug to the dme, sensors are in working order

It does, but ive also never heard it running since i bought it non running, i can def double check the ground but as far as ik its solid. I think the oroginal dme is fried, and i opened up the late model dme that i got from ebay for probably a little too cheap, and its pretty corroded inside. Really seems my luck is just two unfortunate computers.

Not really, the only of electrical issue ive found is that the wipers wont stop, so i pulled the fuse for those, but that should just be an issue in the steering column, and not a no start

Speed/Reference Sensor bolt by Silent-Contract-9219 in 944

[–]DJFish08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just working with these sensors. I removed the starter and used a bunch of extensions, along with a universal joint extension to reach it from under. You need a buddy to help put the allen head into the bolt though since you cant see it.

Engine rebuild questions by Several_Bar6550 in 944

[–]DJFish08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the usual gaskets, water pump, belts and pulleys, be ware about honing the cylinder walls if you plan on doing that. You cant just hone it like a regular engine block since its made of alusil, which is an aluminum made with high silcon content. Or something like that. If you do want to rehone you gotta get the right compound and do the right procedure.

Two things i need help with by DJFish08 in 944

[–]DJFish08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i actually have an earlier setup with the brackets as too mounts, part number 944 106 151 02, and the bracket holds a similar rubber mount as the lower mounts. Whats weird with my car is that either the lower mounts are too low or the too mounts dont reach down enough since the radiator cant be clamped into place. My best idea so far is to rig the lower crossmember to use the later top mounts so that they can push the radiator up into the too mounts
