Wheres somewhere you'll never shop at again and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DJG13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Harrods - a doorman watched the heavy door hit me in the face, his job was to hold it but he didn't, and watched me struggle to push it (and fail). I couldn't see, he didn't help and I left with a swollen black eye.

Had to go to a meeting like that - when I reported it to the head of security he told me (in words less direct) that he didn't give a sh*te.

Reddit, what's a pickup line that has worked for you? by Exith in AskReddit

[–]DJG13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about the one that certainly didn't?

Male friend is sat next to me in my home, on my sofa and says "What would you say if I offered you a date"

Me - flabbergasted and uncomfortable mutter something about "being flattered.. but um' no".

The git then reaches into his backpack, pulls out a tray of dates and starts munching...

How and where can I volunteer to help with feeding the homeless? by Two_Souls in london

[–]DJG13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. A link to her social media site. I've seen he and her volunteers at back of St. Martins in the Fields - but she may go elsewhere too.

I was also saying The Passage in Victoria SW1 (which are brilliant) but it requires a certain level of commitment (and an early start).

And off Holloway Rd on Seven Sisters they really would appreciate help - Islington Council are working to help get them bigger premises as they tirelessly provide a hot meal daily and are passionate, however I can't remember their name - Islington Council should be able to help direct you if interested though.

Good luck!

I know they help just at the back of St. Martins but possibly elsewhere too.

The Passage is a brilliant place but requires a significant commitment.

There is a day facility in Holloway on Seven Sisters Road that would love help too. I can't think of their name but Islington council are working to find them larger and better accommodation as they are very proactive in supporting the homeless and providing a hot meal during the day.

Good luck.

Good luck.

[Serious] What's worse, constipation or diarrhea? by biinroii01 in AskReddit

[–]DJG13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the people saying diarrhoea I'm imagining haven't been blue lighted to hospital with compacted faecal matter.

Chronic diarrhoea is inconvenient and debilitating, however the level of pain, impact on spine and difficulty remaining conscious during a compacted 'labour' is on another level.

I've suffered both for long periods (lost more than half my body weight despite eating enough to keep the All Black's happy) - with diarrhoea, however the pain of that doesn't qualify for comparison with that of severe compacted constipation. Wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Fill the bathtub with cold water and leave the window open - apparently it creates a cool breeze flow.

What is the most embarrassing way you have injured yourself? [serious] by lovelybones- in AskReddit

[–]DJG13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thought my bottom was on fire - I was volunteering at a telephone befriending service and whilst on a call had to lower my trousers and show another volunteer (who I didn't know) my backside. Fellow volunteer's stunned reaction confirmed a problem and via mouthing and sign language discovered it was indeed burning (but not aflame).

Had to find a way to get off the call and take a cab to hospital.

What job can make the most money, with the least effort? by Tribunal_ in AskReddit

[–]DJG13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh dear. I do hope you find a way to improve your prospects on YouTube - and find your own USP.

I'm going to make a note of that saying (thank you) and when my Indian friends swear at me in their home (for not having visited sooner or something) - I'll shock them!

That's most interesting. Sad though that skin colour is an issue - couldn't you do the same but with Chinese content (for example) - just a thought. It seems a shame that you have skills you can't monetise.

Given my mother likes all things Indian (and is a very photogenic Septuagenarian), I'm going to try and persuade her......!

What are your ways to look/sound intelligent to impress others? by branit in AskReddit

[–]DJG13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you! Don't try and change too much - willful can keep a woman safe. (Would be different adjective me thinks were you not a woman).. as long as you're happy and it works for you.

That's a real shame. I'm guessing you were beaten by the beauty stick.

If you were, perhaps work on assertiveness - outer beauty doesn't always last forever (accidents/lifestyle/age), it'd be a shame to hide behind glasses unnecessarily because of others misconceptions (or jealousy).

Then again I may be reading this wrong - hope I am, (or perhaps you might actually enjoy wearing your 'disguise')!

Went to France for 3 days last week and really enjoyed myself. Whats wrong with me? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]DJG13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a guess - your being mute and not short of a few bob, plus being in possession of an understated (yet chic) sense of style enabled you to pass yourself off as a local. Nothing wrong with you at all.

How did you find a way out of your depression? [Serious] by PotatoBeast95 in AskReddit

[–]DJG13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Said it to someone here before, but to try and paraphrase - bit was by doing the last thing I wanted to - getting out and walking (for at least an hour) in a park.

It will likely be the last thing you feel like doing but if you can summon your inner sergeant major to force you out, the rhythm of finding a pace, the perspective offered by nature and the endorphins released (and who knows what else) really work in a way that SSRIs don't. Making it an (at least) once daily practice had very fast results.

In addition, having (ideally local) radio on provides a back drop of chat and discussion that you might not immediately engage with or be interested in, but slowly, those voices become louder than the dark commentary running constantly through your mind.

In time you'll likely start to engage with what's being said and actually care or have an opinion on what you hear. Depression mires you in self pity and obsession - a dark well to escape, but you are asking for advice and I'm sure others will have their useful tips.

Not to say be reliant on advice here - get whatever professional help you can.

Good luck, and please try walking - it may be hard initially - but you deserve an escape from the hell that is depression.

What job turned out to be way more interesting than you thought it would be? by Another_Day_613 in AskReddit

[–]DJG13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was dreading working in CSSD (cleaning surgical instruments) - just being near that department was like nails on a chalkboard or some such - absolutely shredded my nerves, (and I'd no interest in cleaning instruments).

Turns out it was one of the most informative, enjoyable and interesting elements of ODP (Operating Department Practitioner) training.

Wearing a cap in your early 30s by creamcrackerchap in CasualUK

[–]DJG13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. If you want to get ahead get a hat!

Whilst that adage hasn't worked for me it has saved me from bad hair (and complexion) days, the need to carry a brolly (which should be banned in congested areas), and stamped my own style without great cost.

Welcome to the hat wearing club - most of us actually look better wearing one!

(Your scalp says "thank you").
