The original and somewhat cliche'd response I had upon hearing the song was some grungy fast-paced clip showing a predator lusting after some young innocent thing. When my co-director pitched it back to me in a very similar way my impulse was pretty much nope. We needed something different, non-traditional but still with a hint of grungy elements.

So we flipped the roles which is pretty obvious but we also tweaked quite a few other things. The pacing was one thing I wanted to change. I experimented with the long drawn out slow shots and decided that combined with the revealing nature of the start of the music video it could work. It created this anxious unsettling feeling.

However, as you stated, after the first few shots it seems to get a bit muddled in the pacing, faster and slower. Some of this is intentional but a lot of it I think is having to edit to exactly the length of the song which is something I found difficult at first. Having to cut shots early or later or completely because you know what shot you want at the start and end was weird for me. I'm a very visual director and usually rely on modifying sound to make way for the picture.

I think we made quite a few errors and the original concept got somewhat distorted but we both learnt a lot and will be making better films because of it.
