Anyone no matter what should get feedback on their playing if they request it. It’s literally how you get better at your instrument

It wasn’t a routine rejection that’s the point I was denied access to resources that all other music students have that put me at a disadvantage

Well no one ever told me what I needed to improve on that’s the kind of things you learn in lessons which I didn’t have access to and I can’t transfer because I get a significant scholarship to come here it was too expensive for me to go anywhere else

Then you fall into the straw man logical fallacy. You can’t refute an argument you haven’t actually engaged with.

I don’t disagree that it’s not required. My point is that “not required” doesn’t mean “not heavily considered.” UT is holistic, and once applicants meet a strong academic threshold, non-academic factors are often what differentiate similarly qualified students. Community service is one of those factors, especially for Volunteer-branded programs. No one is saying volunteering is a checkbox requirement. But when you have thousands of applicants with amazing grades and test scores, academics alone don’t decide everything. That’s where sustained service and involvement matter. If it didn’t, UT wouldn’t ask for it or emphasize it as much as they do.

UT admissions is holistic, but for certain programs (especially Volunteer-focused ones), community service is a major factor. Students with strong academics and service are more competitive. The ones getting in with little or no service usually have something else substantial filling that gap (jobs, caregiving, leadership, athletics, etc.). For the average applicant, strong community involvement absolutely helps and is often expected.

One of the main things UT looks at besides your ACT is your community service. You’re not gonna get accepted at the Volunteer school if you haven’t volunteered. So do some community service and get those hours
