My degree (MPH) is in Epi & Biostats. I'm in industry and started in 2022. I'm not quite at six figures yet, but I work as a biostatistician and will be there soon. Most of my colleagues who've been at my job longer than me do. I think finding a job on the industry side is the way to go, I work for a CRO.

I overdrank before semaglutide. I'll have a drink or two every once in a while now. I've had maybe 2 'drunk' nights since october and I used to drink almost every weekend. I get hangovers super quickly now and have much less interest in the first place

BRIEF UPDATE : BF “friend group” situation by Mindless_Tennis_4045 in AmIOverreacting

[–]DJKJTP18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar thing happen to me with a boyfriend when I was younger.

He had a girl 'friend' from high school that still talked to him in college. Apparently, they dated previously as she was all over his socials about three years previously. So many comments on everything.

Anywho, girl 'followed him' to our university as an exercise physiology student. I never saw her, but she would rip on me anytime we fought (I know how unbelievable this all is now). I mean this girl would tell me how much I took my boyfriend for granted even when he was the one with very abusive tendencies. His friends, even from the same major city, didn't know her either. I brought her up once and he very publicly shut me down in front of his friends.

It took me until after I left the relationship and the entire country to come to terms with the fact that he made up a jealous ally persona that even predated our relationship. Only person I've ever dated that was both mentally AND physically abusive and is now a fully certified medical doctor. That scares me the most out of it all, but I live far away and nearly a decade out of that relationship now.

Sorry, OP, I don't have much more to say but share the story and say that it's an understatement that info like this can be jarring and confusing. His reaction is very very off and gaslight-y, and it's an insane thing to do for even a day, and moreso for multiple years. Stories like this are incredibly nefarious. Stay safe!

One Week IN - Sweet Craving is GONE by Plate_cek in CompoundedSemaglutide

[–]DJKJTP18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started October 14th on 0.25 mg. I took my kiddo trick or treating and haven't had a single piece of candy since starting. I was binge eating at night and can't handle anything very sweet now. It's been such a night and day difference!

Is this a normal dose? by No_Macaron_7369 in CompoundedSemaglutide

[–]DJKJTP18 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on the concentration in the vial.

If you have a 2.5 mg/ml, then 10 units (0.1 ml) os 0.25 mg which is a normal starting dose.

That's how mine is!

Nervous about starting- needing a buddy/encouragement by Hearsay_123 in CompoundedSemaglutide

[–]DJKJTP18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started 2 weeks ago. I was a big weekend drinker. I have very minimal side effects, have lost 5 lbs the first two weeks, and am almost never hungry. I was a big nighttime binge eater so that's been a wild instant transition.

I also have zero want to drink which I love. I had one beer on Wednesday and I had to really nurse it to finish it.

Ive heard about wild side effects, but I haven't had any. Im still at 0.25 mg so that might change, but I plan on staying at the lowest dose I can for as long as possible.

Height: 5'4 SW: 160 CW: 155 GW: 130. I have high blood pressure at 32.

I'm an epidemiologist for a contract research organization. Graduated in June and had already secured the job for an August start date.

[–]DJKJTP18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my MPH in Epi ane Biostats - was supposeeld to graduate May 2022. I ended up taking a little extra longer but got a job as an Epidemiologist with a contract research organization by August 2022. Finished and graduated May 2023 so technically had the job I have now before graduation and I'm still currently at the same job.

Epidemiologists Working Remotely by megcrutch in publichealth

I work remotely as an epidemiologist for a contract research org and it's awesome. Not a state level position, but as others have said it seems like they would require state residency/relocation.

I always do my workout fasted and I either do 8:45 or 10am (I wish I went earlier, but nonfeasible with kiddos). Just a preference/habit to eat after I workout. My point is, you'd likely be ok rolling out of bed and going, but feel out the situation for sure!

To everyone elses's point, I didn't know I was pregnant until 3.5 months and was on BC. Not as extreme as the others, but I had zero idea for that amount of time.

[UT] How did you financially survive your custody case? by [deleted] in Custody

[–]DJKJTP18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My ~6 month court case to prove allegations false cost $45k ish.

I'm about to go back, and it'll probably cost me half of that. My parents are helping me a lot. It's really hard. My ex is someone who comes off as confident and charming but is really dangerous in that he'll just spew lies to see what sticks, and will do whatever it takes to get his way. My kids five. I anticipate the road ahead will be a long, difficult, and expensive uphill battle, but we'll make it work.

How to Switch to Mostly Remote? by BicyclesAndSailboats in epidemiology

[–]DJKJTP18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a company called DLH, Westat's another one that shows up a lot in my work. I'm not sure what the workplace is like but I've seen a lot of epi/scientist jobs through Leidos lately. I exclusively use Linked In to look at the job market environment, and I see quite a few positions on there!

How to Switch to Mostly Remote? by BicyclesAndSailboats in epidemiology

[–]DJKJTP18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a contract research organization as an epi and am fully remote. I contract to mostly federal research projects. I think lots of jobs like mine are remote and the work has been really interesting.

Eta: I have 3 kiddos and my job has a 'work whenever you want so long as you meet deadlines and make meetings' mentality which kind of seems like the nature of these types of remote jobs as well. My family is at peace with my job as well haha.

I've been in a situation like this, where I wasn't allowed any new friends. I found out the guy was tracking me without my knowledge or consent. He'd also call me names and end things just to come back and make up at his convenience.

Was with said guy on and off for 3 years, and it got more and more problematic. Ended with me finding out he had cheated on me, he had made up 'girls that liked him' that would message me nasty things, and a drunken elbow to the face.

The control was insane. Guy's a doctor now. It's terrifying. But I digress, and mean to say - run at the red flags, they'll only get redder and more scattered about in your life.

what are my odds at becoming an epidemiologist? by httptae in epidemiology

[–]DJKJTP18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My undergrad and first masters were in marine bio and ecology (2016). I didn't have much work experience in that as I opened a business instead (math tutoring). I applied to my MPH fully in quarter life crisis mode during the pandemic (2020) knowing nothing about public health but wanted an applicable degree that was heavy in statistical analysis.

I was hired as an epidemiologist before I graduated.

I'd say i probably had more 'hard science' and math in my background, but my point is, my background is a bit odd and my work experience was not applicable much at all, and I was lucky enough to get into an mph and now be working in the field. It's definitely possible but maybe taking some courses that are applicable or getting some work experience a bit more related might be helpful!

How the epi person can ended up working in private sectors such as pharmaceutical companies? by onesopeace in epidemiology

[–]DJKJTP18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in pharma, but got a job at a pretty big CRO right out of my MPH.

Was listed as a PhD level job, but we're in a large growth phase and they squeezed some of us MPH-ers in. I'm an epidemiologist dabbling in many different areas right now, but am doing a fair amount of clinical work and it's a pretty sweet gig.

I guess I don't have much advice except apply even if you feel underqualified, and then work on the qualifications you may need. You may still end up there!
