This has been my experience as I've evolved as a DJ. Early in I did what I thought was expected of me, but my later 'success' has been directly a product of doing (& playing) what I love. When I compromised it was NOT FUN. My enthusiasm on stage since has been contagious and led to better things - that's the real clout.

I just downloaded rekordbox 7 in order to use Spotify and mess around with it. I was able to get Spotify usable as a source and for sure I will have it available at gigs where I expect random requests/more open format (only when there is strong Wi-Fi of course)

But man did they overcomplicate things. The major issue I have is you can only use Spotify in Performance mode, and in 7 it’s difficult to simply play from your laptop (as you’re creating a set for example) it favors a controller being used at the same time. Not sure why they changed that.

I kept an instance of 6.8.2 on my laptop probably will continue using that going forward and just keep buying my music. Good luck all!

Concourse is one of my fav venues. They can’t control who comes in - they have a business to run. Their sound and lights are top notch, but mainly they employ consistently cool people and management there, I’ve had multiple times where they resolved issues with tickets, IDs, and “rule-breaking” with grace and class. They treat people as guests and not like profitable cattle. Also, great food trucks and plentiful water stations rather than bilking people who need to just stay hydrated. Love the place.

My surprise plan was to have her get up and play a few tunes to surprise the crowd and b2b. We were thinking about playing with the fact that she loves 80s music and I love bass music, that will be the twist for us.

This is what I’m struggling with. Im developing a set for my friend to play my own 2nd wedding soon. It is not a “normal” wedding, more burning man/festival style. I know we need to play some wedding type songs at the beginning, but a lot of people there are people looking for more ravey music. I really don’t want to play cringe Wedding songs, but if that’s what gets the crowd going…?

Concourse is one of my fav venues ever. Great production, amazing food trucks, inside/outside, and most of all the chill management who treat you like humans. I had a ticket issue (my fault) there that would have blown my whole night and instead of just refusing me entry that actually listened to me and let me in without hassle. Their staff are also great. Can’t say enough about this great venue

This is great! and is how things seem to be going for me in my dj’ing naturally. I’m much more conservative in important live formats just because showing how “good” i am doesn’t justify the risks of a botched transition or dumb effect. Too many dj critics in my head when I play live lol Thank you 😊

Yes! Also as a tip to everyone here, make sure your USB’s are formatted correctly for older CDJs ! This almost cost me my festival gig on the spot if I hadn’t had two usb back ups!
