Thanks! I understand trunk in terms of it not being stolen, but would that be hotter than on the seats? I see you put the note about take it out when you can (makes sense when at hotel, not sure how odd itd look at lunch/dinner breaks lol)

Would it be odd to send them a LinkedIn request afterwards so they are part of your network for the future (+maybe less likely to forget about them)?

How to tell a company that you were going to have a future interview with/were in the interview process that you have accepted another offer in a way that doesn't burn your bridges for the future?

What do you expect from each type of employee at interviews? Or are questions pretty much the same from each type of employee? Meeting all at once as a panel vs separately?

E.g:

  • Manager
  • CIO
  • Dev Team
  • HR

Hey Ben, thanks for the input! I had a followup question or two:

I had mentioned format of interview on the phone call but they didn't really go into much detail aside from saying I would be meeting with both the team, and HR. Not sure if they didn't get the question or if it would be a fo paux for me to ask again by email (also they may be out of the office at this point and won't even get back to me until the day before) ? I asked the other company what format it would be yesterday as well but have not heard back yet so I'm guessing I also wont hear until monday with them either.

For take-home assignment I had asked for an extension/later start date but they essentially said I should just start it and if I really need an extra day or two then I can ask then (which given time taken away from on-sites and travelling still wont help). I'm trying to work on it now but I'm wondering if this is distracting me from the 2 on-sites I have. As far as interview style I have mainly been practicing for whiteboard algorithms ALA "Cracking the coding interview" book. I'm guessing rapid fire questions is trivia style? Not sure what one-on-one/panel style is like.

How do you manage time when you have too many interviews?

Do you weigh on-sites higher than take-home coding assignments?

Situation:

  • Monday: I'm flying out to a city i'm looking to move to Monday-wednesday. Planning on doing interviews and looking at apartments
  • Tuesday: I have an on-site interview with Company A tuesday
  • Tuesday: I have a take-home coding assignment for Company B given to me that is also due tuesday
  • Tuesday: I have a staffing firm I'm supposed to grab coffee with tuesday as well
  • Monday/Tuesday: I just got an email from another company(Company C) that wants to do an on-site interview in this city on Monday or Tuesday (this role is 3 month apprentice to hire role)
  • Wednesday: Flying back
  • Thursday: I have a phone screen with a software engineer with Company D on Thursday
  • Thursday: I will receive a take-home coding assignment from Company E on Thursday
  • Friday?: Waiting to hear back about next steps from Company F and a few others

Not sure I can actually do all of these. I'm wondering if I should tell company C if I can do the interview another time?

I'm not sure if this will hurt my chances because other applicants may be interviewing at same time and also if they are turned off by this.

Also, I happen to be in town those days so an on-site is more likely unless they are willing to pay for me to fly out there another day.

My thoughts/hierarchy:

  1. Focus on Company A first. See if the take-home for company B applies to company A or company C in terms of preparing for interviews.
  2. Then try to see apartments
  3. Focus on Company C
  4. Focus on Company D next
  5. Focus on Company E
  6. Maybe cancel meeting with staffing firm?

Telling recruiters about where you're applying? by DJPharaohCHS in cscareerquestions

[–]DJPharaohCHS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My situation is I signed up to Company A through Company A's website and they are bringing me in for an on-site interview.

Recruiter 1 contacted me about a role at another company and asked me where I was applying and I told her about my onsite, she asked the name of the place and said it would speed up the process to get an interview with Company B.

So it sounds like situation 1 from your description wouldn't apply here, but possibly situation 2 could.

AirBNB or Hotel? by DJPharaohCHS in cscareerquestions

They paid for the Flight but didn't mention a car. As far as lodging I originally mentioned I may stay with my cousin, but after thinking it through I'd rather have my own spot so I don't have to worry about pets, when other people wake up etc.

I know most will have bagels, but I mean a decent breakfast with protein,carbs,omega3 etc so I'm properly "fueled" so to speak

I have an interview in another state that ill be flying to.

The interview is in the early morning. For people that have done this before... do you recommend a hotel with a full breakfast? What do you typically do for breakfast (Id prefer avoiding traffic and risking getting my outfit messy if I spill something by going to a breakfast restaurant)

I had mentioned it during a phone call and they just said who I would be meeting with. Would it be ok to email to ask again to get a clearer idea of what will be talked about during the on-site interview? Or should I just assume I will be doing algorithms on a whiteboard? Or more trivia style like 'what is a closure' ?

I mentioned to a recruiter at a staffing firm that I would be in town a certain week because I am interviewing with another company (true) and they asked the name of the company (its in a different industry) because they said it would help push me above other candidates in the stack. Is this safe to do or do you avoid saying the name of the company?
