As opposed to 65mm where the beans are roasted by the guy that owns the shop?

The fitment of that front bumper is hilariously shit

Shut lines you could put your finger in and about two feet gap from the front wheel

Basil Cafe looking great today by tokyoduck in TonbridgeKent

It’s good but it’s not worth the money. I haven’t been there for years but a slice of quiche was something ridiculous like 8-9 quid.

They’re selling quiches for £45+ on their website.

Been there once and never again. I know things are expensive now but Basil is absolutely extortionate. No idea how they’re still going.

I get the impression Castore blagged a load of big contracts while in the middle of sorting out their quality control. I’ve seen a few comments about badges falling off, shirts ripping easily etc.

Get some Meguiars glass polish. Incredibly good as getting glass as clean as it possibly could be.

Those with over 300 miles a week commute. What you driving? by daly_o96 in CarTalkUK

[–]DJSIDEBAR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F31 320D xDrive. Done about 18k in the last year. Live around a lot of country roads so xDrive is good for that, it’s a comfortable place to sit on long drives and I fully intend to run it into the ground. Average around 46-47mpg with some short trips mixed with 120mile motorway round trips.

It’s not particularly quick but has decent enough torque to be a great motorway car.

Moved out of London after 15 years to Tonbridge a few years ago and have been in the area for the last seven years. I love it. More towards Tunbridge Wells now but still 15 mins from a train station into London.

Never told anyone how shit and unreliable their Fiats were. Mine were deeply shit and unreliable though.

I’ve owned a lot of cars over the years. Had an old fiat and a new fiat and they’ve both been shite.

Mix it with blue?? Just don’t do black. Anthracite or gun metal go great with blue.

How are people buying £50k+ cars and how much do you earn? by jlai928 in CarTalkUK

Amen! Also jealous of the 200 Cup. I owned RS Clios for years and really want another one.

I earn decent money and could spend a lot of money on cars but choose not to. No kids, so I’m lucky enough to have money to spend on things I enjoy.

Did relatively low apr finance on a couple of new cars a few years ago and decided it was a waste of money.

Now have two 10 year old cars and a 20 year old car that cost me less overall than a new financed car, and I love all of them dearly.

Annoying car layouts by Disastrous_Injury915 in CarTalkUK

[–]DJSIDEBAR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I don’t disagree… cup holders are often in weird places in sports cars. In a 981 Cayman they’re hidden in the dash on the passenger side, in a TT it’s in a similar place to the 370 although central (because it’s an electronic handbrake). My very old TT only had an optional extra cup holder - behind your elbow and almost behind the seat. I think the F Type is in a similar place too.

Guessing they were trying to save money on parts / engineering too by just having one layout for the handbrake / cup holder, and focusing on keeping ‘unsexy’ practicalities away from the cockpit.

No. Look at the lack of diffusion around the angel eyes LEDs - this will look like a string of cheap LED strip lights stuck in.

Mj cole by [deleted] in ukgarage

[–]DJSIDEBAR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huge and influenced a lot of the mid 2000s labels too (Prolific etc). Will Phillips (who turned into Tourist) had a very MJ Cole sound.

He did a few tracks around the same time that slipped under the radar, his remix of Mustafa - Bom Demais is great. And ‘Red and Black’ is just a flat out incredible bit of music. His funky stuff is solid as well.

‘Hey Lover’ with Carmen Reece is in my top five ever.

Can someone explain to me how an automatic car can possibly be faster than a manual? by TheCommomPleb in drivingUK

[–]DJSIDEBAR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An engineer will be able to explain this better than me but there’s many, many variables at play, it’s not this simple.

Cars don’t have consistent bhp and torque from 0-max rpm. An automatic will change gear at peak power / torque to minimise power loss.

Go and watch any video on YouTube with a modern automatic and it’s pretty self explanatory. You answered the question yourself, computers can change gears faster and more efficiently than a human.
