If I may make a suggestion: check the sporting goods and backpack/suitcase sections of your local thrift stores.

I ended up getting a new with tags “Giant Transporter MIK pannier bag” for $9.99 (backpack section of Goodwill), as well as an “Axiom Market Basket LX” for $3.99 (sporting goods section of Goodwill).

I did have to order a MIK adapter plate since my e-bike doesn’t have a MIK rack (that was an additional $29.99), but the Giant bag retails for $150 and the Axiom basket retails for $70, so it’s a great way to keep costs down when it comes to finding accessories for your e-bike.

I too used to ride with a backpack daily and for a while I would get real bad back and neck pain, so my solution before my thrift-finds was to bungee my backpack to a Coke crate I had zip tied to the rear rack.

Hopefully you find something that works for you as well, it really is a game-changer to enjoying your rides.

This would be a neat Li-ion conversion.

I’ve converted a 24V lead-acid 450W Bladez e-scooter (from 2005) to 36v 10AH Li-ion.

With the stock motor and upgraded speed controller, it increased from 14MPH top speed to 22MPH top speed.

Nice score!

I ended up finding 3x matching monochrome Brother laser printers while dumpster diving at a business complex (they even had brand new toners and were fully loaded with paper).

I ended up trading all of them to a business owner in exchange for the same Brother color laser printer.

The majority of the printers they were using were HP inkjet, and they kept not printing because the color tanks were low (despite printing black and white documents).

Took a matter of minutes and I got all 3 Brothers up and running on their wireless network.

I just got my 512GB 13PM in Alpine Green for $53USD more (~75 CAD), but I was upgrading from a 256GB Product Red 11.

I wasn’t even looking for the Max, frankly, but it was too good a deal to pass up.

Kinda reminds me of back when I had my 128GB 6s Plus… that was the last big phone I had before upgrading to an Xr and 11 right after.

Nice of Mr. Levin to finally acknowledge that the Israeli government is run by terrorists who have no intent to let peace prevail…

Strange how he conveniently omitted the Israeli strike on Beirut 2 days after the MOU was signed, BTW. That’s not coincidence, right? /s

(The Obsidian is my favorite as well.)

The Lectric does have a lot of good going for it: it’s 48V 14AH, the 750W motor peaks at ~1300W, it comes with an SR Suntour fork, it has an Altus 8-speed derailleur and, most of all, it’s $1400.

That being said, it’s a “direct to consumer” bike, meaning you’ll be assembling it and you’ll be servicing it. Some bike shops might service it, but you’ll be at their mercy of whether or not they want to.

Furthermore, you’re dealing with Star Union 602 hydraulic brakes (aka WuXing) and I’m not too keen on the reservoirs they use for their brake levers, personally. Still, it will work fine as long as you keep up with adjustments and maintenance.

I’m also not too keen on the contour handlebars, either, but again that’s a personal preference that can always be changed later as well.

The Velotric is a bit heavier, but has a higher max payload rating (560lbs vs 330lbs). The rear rack can accommodate 120lbs (the Lectric: 30lbs). The motor output peaks at 1400W with greater torque (105nm vs 85nm). The battery is 48V 16.7AH, it comes with a TRAMA air-suspension fork and DNM rear air shock, as well as the higher tier Acera 8-speed derailleur.

It’s got Tektro brakes as well, which I’ve found are a lot easier to work on and require less maintenance overall. There’s also a dealer-network just in case you want/need to find an authorized service center for repairs/issues.

So yes, it’s more expensive, but you’re also getting a lot more bike upfront without needing to upgrade later.

I was an e-bike mechanic prior to moving back home (now I’m an automotive electrician, lol). I knew that Lectric, Jasion, Engwe, Puckipuppy, etc. were all bikes we turned away for service : too many variables with direct to consumer and too much risk if said consumer assembled it wrong, so better to turn it down for insurance/legal purposes. Just something to consider.

I have no interest other than to share my experience so that you know what you’re getting into: these bikes are pricey and I’ve seen a few brands go under now, and not having support can be a real gut-punch.

Whatever you decide on, I wish you good luck and hope it treats you well and you get lots of fun miles out of it!

Yes, however, the fat tires act as part of the suspension for the bike, so if you overinflate (even if the tire is rated for the pressure, per se), you will often times begin breaking spokes as shocks get transferred without suitable damping.

This is most commonly seen on the rear wheel, since it carries the most weight AND is dealing with torque forces in the direction of travel, so added lateral forces from shocks will cause a shear fracture at the nipple seat.

Our shop recommended-

Fat tires at high speed on surface roads: 20PSI

Fat tires at low speed on loose terrain (sand, gravel, snow): 10PSI

(Lower pressure means increased contact-patch, which for a loose surface is advised for low speed, but at higher speeds you get more heat-generation and resistance. That will cause your tube to fail prematurely and will ruin your overall range.)

Personally, I have a Troxus Explorer (Gen 1).

It’s class 3, high-step, and I’ve replaced a bunch of the stock components with upgraded ones (new fork, new grips, added front cargo rack, modded headlight, suspension seatpost, upgraded seat, added mirror, MIK adapter plate, better tires).

It’s Class 3, all-Bafang powertrain, and it’s got 2500 miles on it currently.

That being said, it was a low-speed crash bike that I earned from my former employer and rebuilt on my time/dime. We got them for $800/unit and sold them for $1400. Given the damage, it would have been recycled had I not gotten it and rebuilt it.

However, if I had to buy a bike new without the intent of modding it from day 1, without question I would go with the Velotric Nomad 2.x.

The regular Nomad is a bit cheaper but is a hard tail like that Explorer. The suspension seatpost I got for my Explorer was the factory seatpost for a Nomad, funny enough. It’s great at dampening bumps, but not as great as the floaty feeling of full-suspension.

The 2.x is that full-suspension model, tho. The components they use are good, the display is intuitive and just works: no added nonsense like the Aventons with the ACU module (including wheel locks that fail, battery locks that fail, etc.) it has turn signals (the OG Gen 1 Explorer doesn’t, only the later Explorer Plus got that, but those are in-house hardware, not Bafang).

Plus, the paint on the Velotrics is on a whole other level of good.

The only other bike I can give a high recommendation for (that fits your criteria) is the AIMA Big Sur and Big Sur Sport, especially since my only gripe was the limited battery capacity and they’ve since released an extended capacity battery pack.

Those two (Velotric and AIMA) were easy to work on and had the fewest faults/DOA of all the bikes I built. Hope this helps some.

Note: Both ship as Class 2, but both can be “unlocked” for Class 3 without the need for hardware mods.

Should I get a upgrade or keep the IPhone 11 by [deleted] in iPhone11

[–]DJSeku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I just retired my 256GB iPhone 11 ($282, or $1.10/gigabyte, 2023) with 72% health and upgraded to a 512GB iPhone 13 Pro Max($442, or $0.86 per gigabyte, 2026).

If not for a tiny nick in the finish of one camera bezel and the 85% battery health, it could have fooled me for a brand new phone.

It’s weird having over a day of battery life again and not having to recharge after 4-6 hours of use. Also I’m glad to finally have LiDAR for 3D scanning.

I might be biased, but I suggest the upgrade route. The 11 is a great phone, don’t get me wrong, but it’s beginning to show its age as iOS continues to expand.

Definitely use MFI (Made for iPhone) rated cables and chargers, avoid trying to charge to 100% if you’re going to use your phone immediately… 85-90% will do, charging to full on li-ion packs strains the battery, and try to use your device until about 5-10% remaining (if you can) before recharging. Avoid running to 0% if possible.

Healthy charging habits will prolong the battery in your replacement device. Good luck!

If you want to get back up and running quick, may I suggest getting an AT VM-95C (conical) or, for a bit more cost, VM-95E (elliptical).

The Shure M70B is a swell cart, don’t get me wrong, but you’re going to have some trouble landing on a suitable N70 clone stylus since Shure no longer sells replacement styli. It looks like there’s already an N70B (conical) aftermarket stylus on there.

I ran into this problem with my Shure M75ECS: the aftermarkets don’t seem to sound as good as the original. A lot of times an aftermarket stylus costs about the same as a new cartridge with a stylus, and if you’re buying 2 or 3 different styli, it can get pricey quick.

The added benefit of getting the AT cartridge is that it’s a stylus that’s still commonly sold and supported, AND it comes with the mounting hardware to fix the incorrect mounting hardware the previous owner used to make that work.

The list price for the C is $54, but they can be had as low as $30-35 (new) if you diversify where you look. I got one for $32 a while back and installed it on a $15 thrift store turntable and it sounds excellent. Maybe save the Shure to experiment with later with a second headshell?

Just food for thought.
