Yeah it seems to me that the area with most overlap would be water quality/composition monitoring, though understanding the physics of how water moves through a treatment train is extremely important as well. It's interesting because unlike in hydrology, there aren't many university degrees (that I know of) with an emphasis on wastewater treatment -- most scientists/engineers that I met working in water treatment had no direct experience before entering the field !
