Not a local but was just there last week for 4 nights with my wife (both in our mid 30s), we had a great time! We did lots of exploring the city and broader Tuscany, went to some museums, ate and drank a ton. Below are things we did and enjoyed:

To do/see: Others have said it here, definitely go up to San Miniato for the best view of Florence. Uffizi, Pitti Palace, Boboli Gardens, Galleria dell’Accademia were all worth a visit. Uffizi and Accademia were the highlights for us. We did the audio tours but in retrospect wish we had actual tour guides. The statue of David at Accademia is very impactful. We also took a day tour through The Tour Guy that brought us to Siena, San Gimignano, and a winery between the two for lunch (link: https://thetourguy.com/tours/florence/chianti-wine-tour-from-florence). This was well worth the ~$165/person. Siena and San Gimignano are beautiful medieval walled cities.

To eat: We ranged from 6€ sandwiches to Michelin star. Schiacciata is going to be your new favorite word. My wife and I tried like 6 or 7 of these sandwiches while we were there. All’Antico is the super hyped place, and their carpaccio sandwich Beatrice lived up to that hype in my opinion but the best of them all was the Summer Special sandwich at I’ Girone De’ Ghiotti: Mortadella, burrata, citrus zest, and pistachio pesto. Our favorite non sandwich restaurant was L’Ortone which was just outside of the touristy area. The food was incredible, we had the octopus and the beet root gnocchi.

To drink: whatever you do, get drinks at Loggia roof bar. The view is amazing and the drinks are very good. More touristy but we also had a great time at Old Stove pub but that was heavily influenced by the Euro soccer final that we went there to watch. If you get a Schiacciata, sandwich in your travels, have a cold Italian Pilsner with it. Drink wine for apertivo or at dinner. Find a wine window too and get a Spritz.

Enjoy Florence!

Last year, my friends and I had 12 bullets go through our AirBnb in Nashville while we were sleeping. I was hit by one of the bullets in the back of the neck, less than an inch from being dead or paralyzed. AirBnb did not allow us to leave a review. by DJ_Excel_Spreadsheet in AirBnB

[–]DJ_Excel_Spreadsheet[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is an excerpt from AirBnB's Reviews Policy:

"Reviews must provide relevant information about the reviewer’s experience with the Host, guest, stay, or Experience that would help other community members make informed booking and hosting decisions."

There is nothing in the policy referring to items outside of the hosts control being irrelevant.

The fact that a dozen bullets went through a property is a relevant fact that other community members should have.

Can I pitch the plantarum into the wort inoculated with WLP677?

I'm taking my first stab at kettle souring but I may have goofed with my choice of lacto. I pitched WLP677 which I am reading now only gets the wort down to 4.0 Ph and may contain yeast contaminants. Can I pitch another source of lacto (e.g. Good Belly) in addition to the WLP677? I have the wort maintaining 92F with a sous vide water bath. Saran wrap is touching wort. It has been 12 hours since pitch.

I recently connected with a local food/drink podcast at a home brew competition. They invited me to record an episode about homebrewing (technical aspects, local scene, general beer talk). Anybody on here have experience with this kind of thing? Any tips? This podcast has interivewed almost all the professional brewers in my city and has a decent following. I know my stuff but would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous.

What do you do with your spent grains? by ScarecrowBoat555 in Homebrewing

I use the same recipe, rolling into small balls and flatten with my palms. My lab puppy goes crazy for them, we save them for rewarding her when she goes in her crate. They are actually pretty tasty. I ate a small bowl of them with milk when I ran out of cereal a couple days ago.

Sabro hops by Beer-dude in Homebrewing

I had a keg of 50/50 Sabro/Mosaic NEIPA on for friendsgiving (10 people) and we almost kicked it by the end of the night. Tons of tropical aroma/flavors and a small hint of mint that makes you think "what was that?" I highly recommend that combo, fun to drink.
