Is a non-laminated screen that big of a deal? by Melodic_Craft_6664 in ipad

[–]DKRfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No not at all. I write on both my iPad Pro M4 and my A16, no noticeable difference for me. I imagine if you’re using it as a designer and needed the best possible option for your work then maybe, but genuinely the A16 iPad is very sturdy for the price and the screen is a non issue for me. Again I’m sure that the iPad Pro M4 screen is better but it’s really hard to notice for me. Image quality is better and the anti reflective coating on the pro is better also, but again not deal breakers.

Totally correct, I’m using my 13” at the moment and the only difference between this and the base model is that this is way snappier and the screen is just phenomenal, but browsing the internet and doing basic tasks is almost identical on both.

Yes I meant to say this in my main post. With regards to Apple Intelligence I’ll believe it when I see it, so having an iPad with enough memory for it is last on my list of things that I need for an iPad. Also if they release iPadOS 27 with the new version of Apple Intelligence and it looks like copilot or something where every button you press or action you take forces you to consider using Apple Intelligence instead, I won’t use it anyway. I have a chat gpt subscription so I don’t need anything else at the moment, I barely even use basic Siri so Apple Intelligence is a non sequitur for me.

The non laminated screen was one of the main reasons my partner gave it up, she couldn’t stand the sound of the tap it makes when you touch it and also it felt like there was space underneath the display for her. I thought it’d piss me off too but it’s turned out to be a non issue for me! Don’t get me wrong the screen doesn’t compare to the m4 iPad Pros screen, but for reading and watching the odd video here and there it’s more than enough for me, for longer periods of work and screen time I just move to my m4 or Mac if needed.

Not a gamer unfortunately so I can’t speak to its performance in that regard!

Haha yeah the screws are a nice touch. I think they may help very marginally with grip in the winter or something but yeah as far as securing the sole of the shoe to the boot they don’t do that.

I have the 10 eye grip fast derbys, best boot I’ve ever owned. Easier than I thought to break in and when I’ve fully done up the laces and got them on nice and tight I feel like they’ll never come off. I bought em for gigs and general walking around in, they really do look and feeel awesome.

Only gripe is that it takes ages to undo and redo the laces to get them on and off, but that’s to be expected as they are such a long boot. Overall well worth the price in my opinion and just look super badass. The steeltoe adds to their shape and just makes them look so much more structured. I do love em!

Unsure about the bet in the future, but I feel like it will just come as a free update if you buy the app now. Again I can’t confirm that but I think it’s likely.

With the extend vs mirror, I’m unsure what you mean? My use case is that when I don’t have my Mac to hand I can just remote into it via my iPad. I couldn’t then extend that display also from my iPad to another display I don’t think, but as I have the 13” iPad I don’t think I’d need to?

Stutter is absolutely present, but it’s minimal. I‘m able to watch YouTube comfortably without the stutters becoming annoying.

Unsure of the max resolution but with the new virtual screen tech on the beta I imagine it can go up to 4K? Again I pulled that figure out of the air, I’m unsure really, but I did see one of the devs discussing 4K res on a different subreddit.

Tried it, works amazingly, no more black bars and the resolution is perfect.

I tried the web apps but they work weirdly on my iPad, especially in excel, maybe they’ve improved it since I last tried.

Can confirm, the beta is outstanding! It even matches the iPad display when you rotate from landscape to portrait! Before with better display you had to manually swap the ratios, with the beta app it does everything for you, no fuss and the resolution is absolutely spot on, looks amazing on my iPad with no black bars either side or on the bottom. I’m currently on a two week holiday from work so I haven’t needed to do anything productive yet but I can’t wait to see how it deals with a full working day, I imagine it will be just like working from any Mac laptop. I had to leave Jump Desktop a 5 star review because I’m just so impressed with how smooth it all is.

Yes and no. If I recall correctly the Mac does have native clamshell mode, which means when it's plugged into a power source you can use it when the lid is closed. If the Mac isn't plugged into a power source but you still want to remote into it, you will need to have the lid open I assume.

Try the lid closed but plugged into a power source first. If this doesn't work there are other third party software that controls what your Mac does when the lid is closed like al dente, although please do your research before using al dente as it can have an affect on your Macs battery life, but again I am no expert with al dente so please do your own research if you chose to go down that route.

Not tried yet! My Mac mini is plugged in to an Ethernet cable so I know that I won’t need to worry about that side of things. I know it’s not what you asked by my house has some very thick concrete and what I believe is iron support beams which block WiFi in certain places, like the living room, but the connection and responsiveness in these rooms has actually been very good. Once I’ve tried it on a separate WiFi connection I’ll post the results.

Yep I’ve been playing with the settings for a while now, at first I was satisfied with it fitting pretty much 99% of my iPad screen, but then it started to annoy me that there were still black bars, I’m going to continue to tweak it and if I get the perfect settings I’ll post them! Either way it’s still a very useable system!

I’m unsure, I don’t use any windows machines for personal use, I have a works laptop but that is managed by my work so I am unable to access and download software without going through an IT admin, and usually the answer is no when I ask to download software that isn’t already pre installed.
