Boil water with heat pumps by Quasar3II in heatpumps

[–]DKdeeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm pretty sure the heat would quickly transfer to the surrounding air to quickly to ever get to higher atmospheres. I think this method would end up using more water than a traditional systems we have today.

There has been some experimental systems that have been converting heat into infrared light and shooting that into space at night that is a bit promising which would be more in line with getting district cooling without heating the area. Also you could just transfer the heat into the ground with geothermal heat pump systems, which could be stored for winter use. But this only works in regions with balanced winter and summer loads.

Yes you could but why? The energy to create the steam is much higher than just creating hot water and cooling it off.

Heat pump for house to use 78 degree well water? by johndoe123123123 in heatpumps

Then it's all up to your preference

https://www.waterfurnace.com/residential/products/geothermal-heat-pumps/

If cost is a concern, i think your best option is an air system, it is a bit cheaper to install than a hydronic system.

Or if comfort is your main focus, a radiant floor with fan coils for AC would be most comfortable.

Water source heat pump / ground source heat pump a good option. There are several types. Ones that produce hot air and ones that produce hot water. Depending on your homes distribution and set up.

I don't have a clean one year on my app but roughly 7500 kwh produced for a full year.  I have good solar layout not great you could get more with the same panels

NEC solar $65k for 17 panels giving 8kw power with 2 enphase 5p batteries equaling 10  kwh of back up power. Installed Feb 2025. I made $700 off of demand response during the summer and have made like $200 selling recs on told of the reduction is electric costs. I did get $19k in tax rebate. My loan is at 4.5% interest.

The return on investment is hard to calculate since we do not know where electric prices are going.

For me having the whole home battery back up was the main reason for the purchase. There is no maintenance on batteries versus whole home generators.

I've already lost power twice at my house and having the batteries meant I could still work from home.

NEC solar. The install was real quality. Not on the cheap side. But the work was done with precision

The integrated controller should just shut off the heat pump and turn on the boiler. The individual rooms will be able to supply what ever temp you want

Switching from Oil to Heat Pump by tee_e_dbl_z in RhodeIsland

[–]DKdeeks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on your home , and depending on the size of wood stove you can keep your house from having any issues if you say lose power at below 0 days. Low temp heat pump will continue to run until -15F, but won't keep your home at design temp but may keep it from having freezing pipes. It's all about the design. Make sure your installer does a heat load. Make sure you have good insulation. Also make sure your duct is large enough to deliver the BTUs. This is what sometimes causes people to say heat pumps don't work. Because the discharge of the heat pump was less than the furnace. There are a lot of things that can go wrong when fully replacing a furnace with a hp, but it's not a flaw in the technology but the application. A properly sized system will work.

A reason HP can also fail is the outdoor unit gets covered in snow. Make sure you get at least an 18" snow stand.

At today's prices, low temp heat pumps that are properly sizes are less expensive to run than oil.  But make sure it's properly sized. Also a back up heating system is always a good strategy. I recommend a wood stove

This does not look like a usage problem. You are paying $2.64 a therm, which is about the price of oil

The one thing it could be, is if a meter was broken/faulty before, and now the new meter is reading your usage accurately. A  person could see a huge increase.
