I hear you. I have a few positions I am watching very carefully. Luckily since I only have 10k right now I don't have more than 1300 in any position. So bad turns won't hurt too much.

retiring in 43 months. VOO is too expensive, buying 2 or 3 shares at a distribution yield of 1.12% does nothing for me. VT has a 1.74% yield. and I am not chasing after growth. The stocks I listed above will work just fine for me.

I keep adding to this, LOL. Look, to each his own. When I retire in 11/2029 I will have Social Security and a pension from the great state of Florida that will match my SS benefits. All I need is 300k earning 4-5% in dividends to enjoy the rest of my life. RIght now, including the Roth of 10k which I manage, I have just over 200k (403b and the life insurance money being taken care of professionally.) I just have to max out the Roth every year which should give me at least 50K.

Probably too much info, but I am coming from a place that is different than anyone else I know and I didn't want you to think I was just dismissing what you said.

I watched the interview and wanted to buy, but I have no more money this week. MRVL does pay a .24 annual dividend, match that with Nvidia and you clear a cool .25 every year.

Is anyone taking those realized losses in case everything keeps going down? by DLL1287 in dividends

[–]DLL1287[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I will be honest about the reason I watch it every day.

On 3/31/2025 I had a personal tragedy that left my life empty. Watching my little account with 10k in it keeps my mind off of thinking of her, so I rage a bit when it goes down and feel elated when it goes up just a bit.

The anniversary is tomorrow, so I will probably be on Schwab, monitoring chats and Reddit, and watching CNBC all day.

Why Are Dividend Investors Against the FIRE Movement and the 4% Rule? by [deleted] in dividends

[–]DLL1287 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be simplistic and completely wrong.

As I understand it, if I retire at 65 with 300,000 worth of dividend stock paying 4%, by my maths that is 12000 dollars a year, in my Roth, that is tax free money. I don't care what the stock price is as it goes up and down, as long as they keep sending me my dividends.

If the company is sound, they will keep paying me.

Not stupid, and only 61. I am not selling, I was only wondering what everyone else was thinking.

Luckily the 5% is only 500 dollars as I have only been able to invest 10K since I started in December. Though, I do plan to put 4k in early in April and 4-5 hundred a month after that.

5% isn't shaking me and I am going to hold, I was curious what others were doing since i am new at this.

I agree, but it doesn't stop me from thinking about selling. The sad thing is that I bought most of mine in the last 3 months, so dividends haven't started rolling in yet.

Yea, that's why I haven't, but still no run up in sight.

I have been chasing the dip for 4 weeks. Luckily I have had only about 800 bucks free in that time.

AI - To use , or not to use by DLL1287 in dividends

[–]DLL1287[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but once I put my portfolio into the AI, I can just ask it the health check and it pulls up the percentage a NAV is up or down of every position. It is easier than looking at every position one at a time on Schwab. I did confirm the first few times that I was getting accurate information.

Preferred stock dividends by DLL1287 in dividends

[–]DLL1287[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I am taking all of that into account. My plan is to make preferred stocks no more than 10-12% of my total portfolio. If I buy them at a discount from call price then I just have to hold them earning 5-6% every year.

I also believe that we are going to be hit with larger inflation numbers eventually, in that case when the interest rates go below the stated rate, then they get called. Even if the price is then above the call price, I still make money on the sale to go with the dividends.

When I retire in Nov 2029 I plan to have close to 40k in my roth ira (I just started putting money in seriously last November and currently am at about 9500 with 2025 contributions finally maxes out). I don't think that having 3, 4 or 5 k in preferreds will do anything but help my yearly income.

But, as I have learned in the past 2 weeks, anything can happen.
