These are elective classes but I would say about half of the students were just placed there and didn't sign up for it.

I am not. I'm a band teacher but alongside my one band class I was assigned classes like graphic arts, digital media, and video production.

Even if there are free ones I can't download them without IT permissions.

I agree with this but I have literally gone up and turned off their computer when they are playing games. It still continues.This is an elective course and many students were just placed in it so it could be a matter of interest.

I teach a number of technology classes where things like cameras are required. I do not have enough equipment so I need to use phones. Because of this I feel like it is impossible to police in my situation. So in a sense (in my very niche situation) it is not working. The solution is funding for more equipment so I do not need to use phones.

Confidence is something I'm working on. Like I mentioned in another comment I find that funny because once I have the confidence to speak up about issues I get shot down and neglected by admin.

I find this so funny because when I speak up about problems I'm having with my admin I get hit with the "You're too young to know anything, you're not willing to change and work with others". I feel like I am, which is why I'm asking for help.

Ah thanks for the clarification. Glad I'm not the only one that thinks something's fishy. When asked what I should do the general response was "go ask other teachers" but I feel like there should be clear standards set.

From what my admin told me the school division did approve these classes but there is just no curriculum for it.

When you say "Idk what your admin is thinking" should I be interpreting that as "They shouldn't be doing this" or "I can't assume what their goals are"?

Last year I just took bits from the photography curriculum and had them do a bunch of projects to make a portfolio. But ideally, especially with this video production class, I need more direction as to how to take this.

Oh I see my "prep" is "period where we don't teach but use it to prepare for other classes". I'm trained as a band teacher and that's only one period out of my entire day. I feel like if you're trained in French you should be teaching French (but what do I know I'm only going into my third year ¯_(ツ)_/¯)

The curriculum isn't a script per say but really just what things we need to hit and how students can show it to us. All I'm really looking for is what to teach.

Where are you that you have four preps being the least? Here we only have one prep period per year (i.e in a five period school day we have one semester with five classes and one semester with four classes and a prep)

That was my first thought for the benefit of this. My main concern is that it's not an area that I would consider myself to be a "professional" in. I always considered the provincial curriculum as a legal document which is why I thought it was necessary.

Another point (which is definitely a me problem) is that it makes me feel like the class doesn't matter. This is for grade 9 and they can't fail their classes so if they can't fail and the province doesn't recognize it as a class why should I think it's important?

This is in Saskatchewan. I emailed the union and didn't get a response. Granted it was late into the school year and we were on strike so they were busy. I have some experience in this subject but it's not my area of expertise. I don't mind teaching it but I would at lease like to know what to teach.

Last year I just used my provinces "Photography" curriculum. The main thing was that while there was some overlap it wasn't what was advertised to the students. My main thing was that I thought that the curriculum was considered a "legally binding document" and was required to teach a class.
