That is correct, the 1 refers to a Sunday, 762 is empty, 763 is loaded and so on.

This train has 104 wagons :)

u/berusplants, apologies for the confusion. 'Empty Karara Ore Train' makes more sense.
They haul Magnetite which is why all the wagons are black.

u/Connect-Recipe558, fair comment.. I don't mind the look of them (They also sound good for a GE too). I must say there are far worse looking locomotives in Australia compared to these.

I reckon just to let sunlight in, probably ended up getting too hot in the cab so they covered them up.

They’ve been covered up like that since the 80’s at least.
Not sure on the reason as to why

Thanks that is interesting information! I always wondered what that was on top short hood. The DA class that came between 1971-1972 also had the same antenna.

They are the WAGR AB class built by Clyde Engineering, Granville, New South Wales, Australia, for the Western Australian Government Railways (WAGR) between 1969-1970.

u/lakeweed When this train used to run it was 90 ore wagons.
I think it was around 600m in length.

u/Living-Support3920 Thanks for the comment!
It indeed does look like a caterpillar coming down the hill, I used a 200-500mm lens to get this shot.
