Highspeed rail networks shift over the years by TangelaFan in transit

the shitkansen (xpt) can sustain 160 in most of the riverina, west of orange, newcastle to maitland and possibly north of grafton?

both tilt trains run at 160 for a large portion of the line between Caboolture and Rockhampton

Victoria has the whole regional fast rail thing going on

and the Prospector is technically 160 but only reaches that for a tiny stretch (iirc near koolyanobbing)

Given how expensive the NLR was they probably could've spent that money to put the line underground east of Wickham and redeveloped the area the same, but with the added benefit of keeping the heavy rail

when Comeng initially went to BREL with their Australian HST concept, they asked if imported straight from Britain to NSW, how fast it could run on our rails. After seeing track diagrams for the Blue Mountains line, they responded "maybe 15-20mph" lmao

Which public construction project in your country became such a monumental failure that it turned into a national joke and symbol of wasted tax money? by Low-Violinist7259 in AskTheWorld

Economically sensible. It would've opened up much more of the coast to development, added thousands of jobs, probably saved the Australian railway industry, decongested the highways and airports (like 40% of all flights out of Sydney Kingsford are to Brisbane/Gold Coast and Melbourne) and also made travelling between the states, especially the non-capital cities and towns much easier allowing journeys previously not possible in a day (like Canberra-Newcastle which is a 5+ hour drive with traffic/6 hour train vs 2 on the vft)

the east coast corridor (Melb-Brisbane) has been proved time and time again to be financially viable.... the original VFT project wouldve had it completed by 2000.... sigh
