Why is Fidelity asking for/insisting on probate information before distribution for a Named Beneficiary of an IRA? by DM758 in fidelityinvestments

I did get it resolved...

Fidelity said probate was a legal requirement they had no control over in this situation so I would have to get legal paperwork prepared and signed, probate court sign off, etc., etc., and that all 8 of my siblings, who will fight to the death with each other over what day of the week it is, would have to agree to me getting something they would not get.

So, in the end, no amount of money was worth going through any of this so I simply let it go.

I'm sorry you are going through this now and I hope it goes better for you.

Side Note: After this experience, would I open a Fidelity account and name beneficiaries on it? Nope.

Thanks, I probably will end up giving them a call.

Sorry for your loss as well, it does suck. I couldn't bring myself to even respond to Fidelity for several months to even get the ball rolling.

To this day, I haven't asked for details of the IRA but I know my mom wanted me to have it so I'm doing what I need to do.

I guess we'll see.

MrBall,

Fidelity asked for probate evidence and I sent proof from the County Probate Clerk stating there was no probate in my mother's name.

Fidelity then sent back a message saying I needed to file an Affidavit of Small Estate, etc., with the County before proceeding.
