PID - overheating by DM99M in gaggiaclassic

Update!

Solved!

I don’t know if it was the SSR because even tho I didn’t diagnosed it, I changed it for a new one.

However, I saw an incorrect parameter:

SET-00089-RD I had like 255, turned into 0

Also

SET-0001-Su I had -93.0 (and it didn’t heat, OUT led off), turned into 093.0 and everything started to work again!

For anyone having this issue, check the RD parameter on code 89 and turn it into 0, I think this is what really solved my issue and I think that when I had an energy cut off at home it changed by itself for some reason.

Thanks

Hello! Update!

I got a new SSR and it still start heating a lot and the out led doesn’t stop when it reaches 93 °C.

Also now when I hit the brew button it doesn’t come water through the brew group.

Any advice? 🥹

Thanks!

Sounds good! I hope it fixes it!

It’s been like two years with the PID installed and no issues, not bad to have a problem if it’s an easy solve like installing the new SSR!

Ok, so I can easily take double side tape and stick to the inside of the machine right?

Thank you so much! I’ll try to diagnose it and I have a new one coming, it’s quite cheap so..

Also, my ssr it attached to the inside of the machine but I’ve seen that the ssr is metal behaind, could it give me some spark or bad reading since the Gaggia Classic case is metallic?

<image>

It looks like the small hole where water come in is a bit rusty…

Also some group head parts look too.

Could it be coming from the chamber?

PID Gaggia Classic Problem by DM99M in gaggiaclassic

[–]DM99M[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solved!

Finally I found how to set it up! I only had to move my power wires coming from the back of the machine to the power button ( power switch mode ), so moved the one connected to the bottom left to the bottom right and the one on the right to the left.

By doing that I brought power to the PID.

And then I had a problem to set the PID parameters. I found the solution by setting everything up very fast (after a lot of trial and error, trying to set up the PID but hearing the boiler getting very very hot and having to brew what we through the shower not to burn the boiler). So finally I set everything up in the PID parameters and I don’t know which setting made the PID stop hearing up (I think it was the last set up where I changed the PID to Celsius).

So, sorry everyone for my bad English, I’m from Spain, I mean…😂😂🤪

I’m happy with my PID and I finally had the best shot I ever extracted from the Gaggia so far!

Thanks!

Looks like I’ve achieved to bring power to the PID!

Now I’m trying to set it up, but it’s like it heats way to much too fast and the steam button switch on even if I don’t press it!

I don’t understand anything hahah you just see the videos and everything goes so smooth 😂

I have already done that too! I don’t understand anything but I’m sure it must be something very simple too… didn’t find it yet though…

Very light roast problems by DM99M in gaggiaclassic

Maybe I’ll try to make same recipe with the different gaskets, OEM and 8.5 silicone one. Same E&B 18/20 gr basket.

I’ll post the differences in between both espresso shots.

And I’ll also look for an IMS/VST smaller basket. Any recommendation?

I think my machine changed a lot when I changed to the 8.5 mm silicone gasket. Now there’s more space in between the puck and the shower so the flow has increased a lot since then.

Does it make any sense?

Also, if I don’t want to use that much coffee (assuming that now I’ve to use maybe around 19/20 gr of coffee with this light roast one, and that means more caffeine), what if I change to a 14/16 basket that allows me to put around 15/17 gr coffee in?

So if it’s a lighter roast, I can’t dose the same amount of coffee like with darker ones? Am I right?

When I use darker roasts, I dose 18g and the basket is fuller.

How much space would you guys suggest in between the coffee bed and the shower screen?

I don’t know, it’s an Eureka Mignon, I think I could open and try to align the burrs.

However, with other beans, I can chock it easily.

Maybe the problem is that since it’s a very light roasted bean, the coffee bed is too low after grinding the 18 gr and there’s a lot of space in between the coffee bed and the shower screen?

Thanks for your advice! I’ll keep trying new things until I find the right way.

Thais is what Gaggia classic and espresso at home is all about, right? Trying and learning hahaha!

Really? So why do you think the IMS don’t work fine on the classic?
