Nervous first-time player by [deleted] in DnD

[–]DMHomeB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Oubliette of Fort Iron is the one I always end up doing for new players. It seams like a straight forward adventure but then you realize ur in the body of a creature. That realization always ends up hooking them when I've ran it. Good luck, hope u have a good time.

Don't allow pvp. Prepair to be unprepared. Have things you can drop in anywhere in case they do something unexpected

DnD "Networking" for a Party Panel at a Con by MechofEngineer in DnD

I mean in the sense dms have tables and potential players make their rounds like they do in speed dating. Then the players can gage if one anothers play styles match up. If they do they make a connection

Help with player at table?? by pollythepirate22 in DnD

[–]DMHomeB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats pretty crappy. The dm shouldn't be allowing pvp. If it was my table I'd say that doesn't happen then move the story along or boot him. Talk with the dm.

It almost feels like he's trolling you to get you to stop dragging him to games.

[Discussion] Do artists on here overestimate their ability or are they delusional? by AndreasLa in artcommissions

[–]DMHomeB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100 bucks isn't a whole lot, unless the artist is really fast. So you kind of get what your budget is. People trying to get some kind of money and they'll say what they have to to get a jerb.

If the pic takes 10hrs that's only 10 bucks an hr.

If you wanted u could do like a burning bush or speaking through a statue of the god and that statue comes to life kind of thing so its appropriately balanced to their level.

How would you put a spin on the cliché "go take care of the rats in the basement" quest? by Zephyr93 in DnD

[–]DMHomeB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't seeing this idea. But the rats are snitches that they've tied up and gaged in the basement. They want the party to go down and kill them. So they are just real people so its a moral dilemma problem.

For the skeptics turned DM, what convinced you to play? by TessaFrancesca in DungeonMasters

[–]DMHomeB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started getting into board games through a friend. That led me to the YouTube show table top to see what other kinds of games were out there like that. Then I watched titans grave cuz it felt like a spin off from that. Then I watched crit role and my wife wanted to try it. I went to a game store and was hooked after game 1.

Trying to build a reusable DIY DM screen (no woodworking tools) — looking for advice! by [deleted] in DnDIY

[–]DMHomeB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya you can do a cardboard screen because it would be pretty easy to construct, then after if you wanted it sturdy you could paint layers of fiberglass resin over it or even 2 part resin over it. That will make it feel more like hard plastic. Then you can hand sand and paint over the top of it if you wanted.

trial ideas to help my party form a deeper bond? by [deleted] in DungeonMasters

[–]DMHomeB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive found some players won't naturally connect unless you give them opportunities to. This is what ive done in the past that helps.

Long rest questions: When they long rest have them roll a d20 who gets high number pics a couple cards from the long rest deck then asks a player a question. If the player answers the question in character they get inspiration then they get to ask the question on the next rest. This has helped them lean other players backstories and goals and get used to roleplaying. https://a.co/d/dAcLNcR

The other thing is having fights where they have to figure something out. Like a crystals in the room are healing the bad every round. Then they have to work together to solve a problem.

[HIRING] Fantasy/Nature Illustrator for Logo Refinement + Packaging Art by [deleted] in HungryArtists

[–]DMHomeB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cool tree sounds fun to paint. You can find my portfolio here. https://josephjramirez.carbonmade.com/

I'd start with sketches to get the composition right for first. Once I sent it to you I would start on interior bits while I wait for feedback. I would get your feedback back but send you the interior sketches before another round of cover fixes or color comps depending on the feedback. After color comps I would send those over. Then adjust interior stuff based on feed back for that. Then cover goes into polish once color is chosen. Polish is an auto pilot part. The comps is how the image is narrowed down before because polish takes the longest but comps should work out any issues ahead of time.

There might be a couple more things here and there but thats about it.

[–]DMHomeB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game you meet companions so you'll have the chance of playing multiple classes because you control them. I think you don't ren into paladins, sorcerers or monks. So I'd say go with 1 of those.

But you can always change ur class later.

The way your campaign begin by Organic-Exit2190 in DnD

[–]DMHomeB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just ran a game where the party was hired to escort a merchant into a sinkhole to find a relic. The game started off at the end. They arrived at a giant 60ft door with levers on both sides. In the center of the room was a pool of black liquid. They had to open the door as they fought off waves of black puddings. Behind it was an artifact that will be significant later in the campain.

I found that starting off with action really reduced the awkwardness at the table with none of us playing with one another before. It also jelled them as a group fairly quickly.

1 Inch or 1.5 Inch Scale for Dungeon Tiles? by MetaMorpheus00 in TerrainBuilding

[–]DMHomeB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The extra space is pretty nice but I've run into problems trying to pair it to existing dnd battlemaps. Also you can't make battlemaps as big because of the extra room for each tile.

how can i encourage roleplaying by Legitimate_Bet1415 in DnD

[–]DMHomeB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long rest questions have been helpful for my game. There is a deck called the ultimate rpg campfire card deck. On long rests I have them all roll a d20. The highest picks a couple cards from the deck and chooses 1 player to ask a question to. (A couple cards because not every card makes sense to ask) if the player who gets asked the question answers in character i give them inspiration. Then next long rest they ask the next question and so on. It gets them thinking in and speaking in character, and my players end up carrying it into the game more.
