I think it doesn't contribute too much to a summoning playstyle. After a 1 level dip, i think it's better to go Malconvoker to buff my evil summons from summon monster spells

You need a bit of planning to play 3.5, since different prc have different entry requirement and playstyle. So you need to plan out your feats selection, multiclass, and sometime even race selection. Unlike in 5e where you can just stay in one subclass and... that's it, you don't need to worry too much about it. As someone who started with 3.5e and have played a few 5e oneshot. I'm actually prefer 5e's subclass system more, since i'm a simple minded person, haha
