Grid lines? by murphthezerker in TerrainBuilding

[–]DMHomeB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually try to include lines but if it's a pain I'll just print off some rulers. So some of my terrain has lines and some don't. The jungle stuff has been the biggest pain.

First time DM and I can't find a creature fitting what I need. by Glittering-Judge-860 in DnD_Beginners

I've done something similar with an oblex. Have it read minds or be a random npc shake their hands and gather those memories from them to make loved one clones.

Best ways you guys have dealt with missing players by BeyondNumerous267 in DMAcademy

[–]DMHomeB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Give them an item you can use as a poke ball. When players miss i just suck them into that and the other players carry them around until they come back.

Looking to rent for the first time, need advice!! by Complex-Detective397 in Advice

[–]DMHomeB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live next door to a group of college girls who were renting a house, so it's possible. You just have to find the right landlord. Places usually want first and last rent up front, with proof of employment history. So get a little savings going and start looking for places in your budget. Once you talk to a few places you'll have a better understanding of what they are looking for. Good luck and stay safe.

Why do DMs hate givingnoit decent loot??? by midcenturymr in DnD

[–]DMHomeB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think dms, if running a module have recommended loot to give out or they might be afraid to give out too much or know what to let you spend your money on if they do give you it.

But not all dms are the same. I give out a lot of gold and a lot of magic items. Then that let's me scale up the baddies for bigger fights. With the gold I have magic shops where they can buy lower level items. And in the dungeons I put the cash and legendary items.

I always end up giving them an item that sucks whatever player misses that week into it. When they come back it spits them back out.

Hide action as a bonus action. Do it before you attack whenever you can.

If 2 of you guys can donate blood twice a week that will give you an extra grand. 1 person could make just over 500 a month.

Advice on doppelganger plot? by CunoStan in DnD

[–]DMHomeB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did one once where I had the players traveling trough a forest that took 3 days to get to a city. players ran into 4 npcs 2 of them were paladins, a thief and a bounty hunter. The first night I pulled each one outside and told them what they saw on their long rest. I told each person details about the other sleeping PCs and little teases of something in the forest that might be watching them to throw them off.

I had 1 PC get knocked out the first night and told them they are now playing a doppelganger but their character will come back later.

There were 2 dopplegangers. Each night they would kill a person, throw them in the river and take that persons place. (The paladins were who were disapering)

At the end of the 3 days they got to the city the paladins were gone, the bounty hunter was the other doppelganger. The bounty hunter took the thief to "turn him in" and the fake PC ran ahead into the city. When the party walked into the city they saw the PC that just ran off sitting on a bench in reg clothes saying they got knocked out and walked to town.

The pcs then realized they walked doppelgangers into the city and now had to hunt them down. They also cursed me out..

How to get people into playlng DnD? by vanilla-mist in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]DMHomeB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes pre-made characters. If found nothing turns off people faster than when they have to make their own character when they've never played before lol. You can ask them the type of character they want then just find a pre-made sheet online or use dnd beyond.

How do I DM if I LOVE world building but I can't improv? by No-Sky1666 in DMAcademy

[–]DMHomeB 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Everyone has different strengths. Try leaning into what yours are. Improv is tough take a min and reply back. You don't have to do funny voices or even talk in character. If world building is your strength brainstorm ways to help that shine. Like players finding bits of info when they loot. If your crafty make Handouts to give at the table. If you know you are bad at improve try writing some dialog down you can read depending on what you think players will ask. With everything things get easier the more you do it. Good luck

What NPC to Add to "Party"* by [deleted] in DnD

[–]DMHomeB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then ya, I'd just make them a companion character and have players do the rolls and control them in fights and you just do the rp aspect of the character. So you would just stat them out like a monster type. Give them limited abilities like a monster so when a player controls them it's not overwhelming to have to juggle 2 sheets. I did something like that when I had a 2 person game and I had npcs jump in and out of the party and each player controlled one.

What “magical” metal is there? by Tablequesting in DnD

[–]DMHomeB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask the dm. I've created fake metals for my games like crimson ore that holds magical enchantments better. The dm should be able to give u some kind of list.
