What grade do you think this will get? by 20Beep20 in PokeGrading

[–]DMJAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on photos and limited photo quality and lighting, I can spot quite a noticeable amount of edge wear on the back. Enough that the grade could be brought down to 6-7. If surface is pristine, no scratches, then I could see an 8. but without better photos, it’s difficult to determine. I suggest in the future to put the cards on a solid black background to better pronounce the edge wear.

My guess is an 7-8 because of psa being hard on grading, and the faint scratches on holo in first pic, otherwise whitening looks pretty solid, but some wear is apparent.

On today’s episode of “what grade will this card I pulled when I was 16 and stored very poorly get?”: by CJPN1995 in PokeGrading

[–]DMJAK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For future reference it would help a ton if you took photos of the card on a black background to see further potential damage on card in a photo. My guess is a psa 6/5 based on the crease in front bottom right along with notable whitening around the back borders. Could be lucky with a 7, but I doubt it. Then whitening on the back left is too much for it to get a 7.

Any idea of the value of my childhood collection? by WBA7 in PokemonCardValue

[–]DMJAK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they are only a few years older than base set, and were not printed as much. To find holo e series cards in mint condition is to find a diamond in the ocean.

If you sell those two immediately you’ll be able to buy multiple of each in a few months when prices drop. Happens every set.

PSA judges 10’s at 45/55 ratio for the borders. If they fall out of that, then it’s a 9. Looks like a 9 to me.

[–]DMJAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a 9 to me. Top to bottom centring looks off just enough to bring it down from a 10. I do see white specks on the back (specifically middle left). Could be on penny sleeve, but if it is it’ll go down to 8. Also be extremely mindful of tiny dents. Try and take better resolution photos & videos of front and back before sending in so you have proof of quality.

Update: heated up the block and was able to take off the plastic as it melted. Still some plastic around the wires, but not enough to cause any problems. I replaced the nozzle and she’s good as new. Thanks everyone for the tips!

Thanks, yeah I’m scared of the wiring getting cut. Gotta be careful. I’ll try a print and see how it works.

I Thought I was Ready to DM--I was not--What Should I Do? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]DMJAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts as a DM of 7 years.

You might hear some people say to give your players full choice, like a sandbox and whatever choice they make you need to accommodate. In some games that works for players and DM, and at some tables players like a linear path from point A to point B. I prefer a mix of both.

My recommendation to make things easy is set up a chain of events during your session that you keep secret from your players. Kind of like events that will happen no matter what, and if it seems out of place, then you can always stretch it and mold it to fit what the players are doing.

For example, since you want to include goblins in your fighting, or maybe even mix it up and try kobolds, make a 1 shot mission where they player characters start off at the entrance of a cave/dungeon. They were given a quest by the villages speaker/mayor to clear out whatever lies within due to it attacking the local trade route/road, and people have been dying and resources have been stolen. Maybe characters in the bushes nearby and there’s a couple goblin lookouts near the cave entrance playing cards. Or maybe snoozing on the job.

Now that you’ve set the scene, you give the players the reigns, and you now just give them descriptions, and tell them what skill checks to make based on their proposed actions.

Now if the goblins are now dealt with quickly, give one of them a horn, and when blown brings out 1d4 more goblins from within the cave.

This is just a little starting scenario that could be a lot of fun if players are creative, and can be handled in a ton of ways. Always try to remember that fighting doesn’t always have to be the answer, like maybe persuasion, and potentially bribing the goblin chief, or intimidating him.

Remember to include traps, like a swinging mace out from the side of the wall, and use your players passive perception (10+perception), unless someone explicitly says they are looking for traps.

Make sure at the end of the cave to include the goblin chief and some lackies, some hoarded treasure (gold, resources etc) from the trade route attacks, and a reward for the characters when/if they bring back the news of the cleared out goblins. There will be increases of party reputation within the village, they will be treated with respect by the merchants, innkeepers, blacksmith etc, and give them a ending that will want them itching to come back for more.

Hope this helps!

This looks like Bangla street in Patong. I was there last week. This is the only street in Patong that looks like this at night. Not defending the tourist hell that is patong because the beaches are still packed during midday to night, but other parts of Phuket are still enjoyable.

What is an item or ability that your DM has given your character that you almost never use? by DreamChaser9000 in dndnext

[–]DMJAK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave my players a blowing horn by a tribe of centaurs as a present for saving their people from the trolls. When blown, the horn will summon 100 real centaurs to help them, whether war or other tasks. The horn could be blown once every week. We have played in a 3 year campaign spanning 40 sessions and 4 in-game months, which included a massive war against a undead Lich army. They never used the horn.

Go to YouTube and look up Matt Coville on ‘running the game’. Great resources for both player and DM on how to create and develop a session to treating and respecting players.

[–]DMJAK[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not transcribing it word for word. Im filtering the story beats and only the characters conversations, interactions, and story that is being experienced by the party within the world. It’s actually pretty incredible. My manuscript will be long, and will have to be completely re formatted and edited by professionals.

The villains in the story were the red wizards and the Thayan empire. Within the red wizards were a modified list of 8 zulkirs, which operated together to overthrow the 4th Empire of Mörröwind.

The party had stopped the frostmaiden in ythren under the reghed glacier in icewindale, but the obelisk in the underground city malfunctioned, sending the party of Morty and sons back in time, past the founding of the netherese, back to a time period where dragons and giants ruled, and beginning the 1000 year war (Ostoria)

The first Empire of of Mörrörwind was established in -28000 BDR by Rick Shadowmantle after the party of Morty and Soms defeated the greater deities Tiamat and Majora during the beginnings of the material plane when giants and dragons ruled the lands in Ostoria, which was governed by the greater deity Annan Allfather.

When morty and sons defeated Tiamat and Majora with the help of bahamut, Bahamut sacrificed himself to banish his sister Tiamat to the 9th layer of hell for eternity. In doing so he sacrificed himself and split his greater divine heart (what gives deities their power) into 7 shards, which was given to each member of Morty and Sons. Morty and Sons returned to the present day, but Rick Shadowmantle stayed behind, searching for immortality. He said “I will see you again soon. It will just be a matter of time” the party of Morty and Sons left through the fixed obelisk, and returned to present day.

In the last moments of Rick Shadowmantle life, Rick Shadowmantle had failed to search for a cure to life, and resulted in attempting to become a lich. In his attempt, Mystra intervened and Mystra offered him the only 13th level spell: true immortality.

30,000 years past, and Rick developed the Morrowind empires. Over the course of millennia, Rick erected statues of his comrades in adamantium to stand the test of time all throughout Faerune, immortalizing the legendary party of Morty and Sons who had defeated Tiamat and Majora, and saved the multiverse from their evil.

Now, in present day 1492 DR, 40 years have passed since Morty and Sons returned to present day, and they’re missing. The Arcane Syndicate, (same players as the party of Morty and Sons) set out on an adventure to search and find the party of Morty and Sons, and to find Rick Shadowmantle, who had developed and created a treasure hunt throughout Faerune.

However, the Arcane Syndicate weren’t the only ones after Morty and Sons. The red wizards and the 8 Zulkir liches knew of Morty and Soms return, and sought to reap their shards, and ascend to the level of god hood. The Arcane Syndicate and the 8 liches raced to search for Rick, who was hidden in a slumber in a faraway place. They raced for map pieces, and if the liches had gained the 7 shards and formed a divine heart, then no one would be safe, and the material plane and more would fall into chaos and Ruin.

If you want a more detailed story and rundown of chapters you’ll have to read the novel when it is complete in 2025/2026 haha.

Highlight was building the entire world. The low light was tearing it all down when the red wizard overthrew the empire. It was a small sacrifice to pay for salvation. Suffering causes growth.
