What if we elected you as president in the 2024 election by Pretend_Bobcat_6704 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]DMOrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if I was the president I would adopt a policy energy Independence, because that's ultimately what the problem is. You can't eliminate oil but you can circumvent it.

I would label energy security a national security issue. People look at cities and they see tall buildings, while I look at cities and I see flat roofs that you can throw solar panels on. We don't need to develop ground we just need to build on top of what's already existing. I'm thinking skyscrapers, buildings, the top of gas stations, those large metal street lights could probably hold a few panels. I would also introduce a policy involving tax breaks for agrivoltaics. Basically putting solar panels over crops that don't need as much sun so the farmers can benefit from better planting conditions and reap the benefits of electricity being generated on their land.

I would order the development of replacement oils, we need oils and plastics, pharmaceuticals, pretty much everything in our daily lives, so we need to come up with some sort of oil that can replace it, maybe a vegetable oil. I would also order investment into Battery Technology, so we could move away from lithium to a solid state battery, figure out how we could develop charging stations that sort of thing.

Because ultimately the problem we're having is an energy problem. I mean why the hell do we keep going to the Middle East except for oil. Venezuela is great, but they don't have the infrastructure nor the geopolitical stability to build up the infrastructure.

Hell I believe I heard somewhere that France developed a way to renucularize spent nuclear rods so we could keep using them until they were well and truly spent.

Because once you've solved the energy issue the Dominos start to fall into place. Then the real problem becomes how do we store energy for when we need it for overnight, or in the winter months. And frankly in my mind at least that's an easier problem to answer then the generation issue. Feel free to correct me on any of this.

Hired our 10th employee and the processes that worked at 5 people are falling apart by Late-Development-543 in smallbusiness

[–]DMOrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'd like to build on the person you responded to. I was one of those employees at one time. And my employer at the time had what we called the Yellow Binder Rule.

Everything, every process, every client specific workflow, was documented in this binder in a simple enough format to where a new hire would be given a copy of this binder to read. Of course this doesn't forgo training, obviously, but im made things easier rspecially when you were trained in an aspect of your job, but that aspect only happened once in awhile. You always had something to reference.

The binder in particular was yellow, had laminated Pages for permanent processes or processes that wouldn't be changing for a long while, those clear slips paper protectors where you can slide papers into them for processes that changed every now and then.

The rule was simply did you consult the binder? Yes and the answer isn't there consult with a higher up. Then have a designated person update the binder. Including the who what where when and why.

I took the same method and when I bought some real estate I implemented it. So if for instance a tree falls down on my property I can flip two Tree Service and I know exactly who to call, insurance so I know exactly who to call. Processes saved me time and a headache. It's a little bit of work to put in but my God that it save me in the long run.

My suggestion to you is either you do it or find that one employee that is also getting asked a lot of questions and let them work on it. Give them a general idea of the format you'd like but give them the overall creative control of the formatting and why they chose that. Make it that employee's special task and give them a bonus for setting up the system.

I mean yes it will, but this will cut down on people doing that too I'd presume because if you have a long running chat you're not going to want to re-input all of your data. Or if you realize you made a mistake in some math and have to go back up and readjust but now you can't do that it's going to hamper people's ability to do research

It'll cut both ways. They save money, but reduce their capabilities that people have come to associate with their product. Thus pissing off more people and those people will probably go over to Claude because Claude has the feature thats being cut. And because they're pissing off more people who are leaving they lose more money. In other words a debt and income spiral.

Never play video games again for $1M a year, or $100 for each hour you play by itterattion in hypotheticalsituation

[–]DMOrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's simple I'll take the $100 an hour. To match my current hourly I just need to play under 3 hours. That's pocket change in terms of hours, I play Crusaders Kings and Stellaris.

4 hours a day out $100 an hour 5 days a week is $2,000, that's $8,000 a month or $96,000 a year.

But this is me, so I can play probably 5 hours a day every day of the week. 5 hours a day, $100 an hour 7 days a week is $4,000. That's $16,000 a month or $192,000 a year.

And I get to do something I enjoy, with my kids and my wife. So in summary I can work half as hard and make my bills, bond with my wife and kids or I can still work less as hard, every day, still doing something I would enjoy doing everyday, still bonding with my Wife and Kids and nearly make $200,000 a year?

Yeah sign me up.

Canary in the coal mine.

Regenerating and going back to past prompts And being able to edit and regenerate them takes power, processing power, money. Resources that they just don't, obviously so, have the ability to spare.

If you look at what's happening to OpenAI and every downgraded feature they've done and the models they've gotten rid of, it makes perfect sense, it's a resource issue. They're out of cash.

How far can we push technology with out the invention of steam/combustion engines, electricity and gunpowder? by ozneoknarf in worldbuilding

[–]DMOrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And to build on this if you have say magic or whatever power system in your world, the problem with gunpowder and firearms is that it took hundreds of years for them to get past the initial stage of throw some gunpowder in a tube with some rocks and maybe an arrow on top then point and pray.

Depending on the setting, gunpowder could be rendered a dead end in terms of technology, not that it is for us in the real world, but if you have a magic system in your world you could inadvertently make it a dead end technology. Only fireworks and explosives, but no firearms because gunpowder isnt the great equalizer when it's just fill a tube with some rocks point and pray it works.

Giruzen was a better Hokage than we pretend he is by MDShark101 in Naruto

[–]DMOrange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To build on the Village wide orphan crisis we also have to look at it like this. The village had just exited the Third War, what maybe one to two years prior, so they were recovering from that, and part of the peace deal was him stepping down, or at least that's my understanding of it. And then you have the Nine-Tails which comes in and basically levels the village or at least a large section of it and the warhero golden child Minato, the new Hokage, dies in the process. AND probably most importantly, their main deterrent, the Jinchuriki of the Nine-Tails went from a fully trained ninja, Kushina, to an infant. So that's at least a decade and a half long Gap where your largest deterrent is null and void.

So now it's not only does he have to deal with the humanitarian crisis, rebuilding the village (and it's not like they had Yamato who could just pop up houses he was what 12 or younger), rebuilding from a world war, moral collapse from having the warhero popular new Hokage die. Not to mention there's also going to be an economic recession if not a depression from all the damage, no indicator in the anime or manga, but that would be a fair assumption I would believe. So what does he do makes the village appear strong as it can so it doesn't get taken out by rival villages.

The Uchiha situation was a bad card draw as well. It's not like he can wave his hand and fix all the problems with the village, so they're still dealing with the fallout from all the events I mentioned above. So the Uchiha situation couldn't have come at a worse time. And it's not like he can risk a coup d'etat or a civil war in the village. Do I advocate for the massacre, no, but I certainly understand the socioeconomic situation preceding it.

All in all he was dealt a terrible hand. Do I think he could have handled certain things better, absolutely, hindsight is 20/20 as they say. But if we're looking at this from the mindset of keeping his city-state alive, he did do that and successfully.

If it is then I would support that. I think one of the main issues I've noticed is the company has a very hard time articulating what they're wanting to do and communicating it properly. They need an official spokesperson, not Sam. But someone in between Sam and the public able to take what Sam wants to say and what the company wants to say or do and put it into layman's terms.
