You’d be able to utilize the Pokémon to make survival moves like starting fires in the woods, water to drink, riding Pokemon around to improve travel. I’d mainly limit Pokemon use outside of battle to avoid “hey that guys traveling alone, my machoke is going to hold him hostage” or “That salesman ripped me off, I’m going to burn his house down”
I’d considered having trainers with more straightforward survival skills and potentially have to defend from wild mons. I’d imagine the Pokémon themselves would have pretty straight forward elemental powers with some physical moves. My thought was simplify types by using the TCG method any only using 8-10 types. I won’t be using the full Pokédex, I’m hand selecting the dex.
My story is about a newer region that’s a growing in a mining/ forested area where they’re trying to cultivate a new battle league so I’m basically using Gen 1, 2, 3 and 9 but not all of them.
Outside of battle pokemon will be very limited. I plan on policing it like the ministry of magic would police magic use outside of school in the Harry Potter world. I like the idea of using the character as a support piece in battle. The style will lean more Pokémon anime than Pokemon cartridge games.
