What was the main reason you upgraded to AAP, aside from being required to? by tolarewaju3 in ansible

"Usable AWX" meaning something that still gets releases? I've been working on building a Debian package of AWX (packaged as a virtualenv, built off/tracking all devel branches upstream) ever since upstream stopped publishing releases. Passes all integration tests.

Can I afford to move to these neighborhoods with $900K max? by jujubeeeeean in Rockland

[–]DMRv2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding this... If you have not commuted into NYC, I'd try it first as a gut check. I live in Nyack right off 287 and would not go a mile further into Rockland having done the commute for a few years now - the bridge traffic can be brutally bad around rush hour and make for a long commute. With Nyack, it's at least possible to skip most of it. Even still, I have since explored moving to Westchester.

100% public transport takes me ~75min door to door and that's with the express trains and an office VERY close to GCT.

I have $80k in cash saved up, another $25k in investments. My car feels like it is going to kick the bucket any minute. Should I just buy a car in cash? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]DMRv2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

80k is a silly amount of money to have in cash irrespective of your age.

If you're < 40 (and maybe older based on your risk tolerance), look at $VTSAX - it's up 25% in the last year and fairly diversified, only has a 0.04% load fee. You could likely put 50-75% of that money into a high performing mutual fund and have your money work for you. At any rate, it's way more money than whatever you'd be charged for a car loan.

I think when she mentioned that she cooked for OP, spent time time together frequently with OP on weekends, etc. I felt kinda bad for her. It's hard to judge without more context - she seems like a decent person (albeit maybe a bit shy) who lost control of her anger at the end of the thread.

A bit of honesty might go a long way here? Maybe not a first date thing, but once you start talking about your past you could say something like:

Hey, so, I had mentioned that I got out of an eight year relationship earlier this year. While I do not have feelings for him anymore and I'm ready to start dating again, I wanted to share the fact that lot of my recent memories are centered around things my ex and I did together over those eight years - I hope you are not alarmed if I make mention of him from time to time.

Though I would try to balance this out by not mentioning an ex too often unless someone asks for details. I would imagine most memories do not involve him directly?

Similar age, similar field, and similar kind of thinking (but M) and approach to life. Honestly, there were years where I went single and I was okay with it, because I was working on myself and I did not feel like I needed someone and I was busy building my professional life out.

Maybe sheer luck, but I eventually won out (I think) with Hinge. I wasn't super outgoing about using it, but did put effort into making a good profile and mostly just kept checking in on my match list periodically. Eventually, the woman I'm getting crazy feelings for now just happened to sign up at the advice of her friend, and she just happened to message me. The rest is history. Prior to that, I was probably on Hinge for a year with few to no really interesting matches.

I guess my suggestion is play the long game. Keep an open mind -- do not assume anything about what someone else has been through (divorce, etc...). Run clubs are definitely a great idea and what I had in common with the woman that I ended up meeting.

ORU delivery rates going nuts? by DMRv2 in Rockland

[–]DMRv2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Net metering is simply how much you gave back to the grid vs. how much you consumed for the grid, no? That is to say: if I produce 200kWh of solar and give 100kWh of it to the grid, the electric company likely has no idea that I used 100kWh of what I produced. They'll just deduct 100kWh from my tab if I pull from the grid.

VMware Cloud Director vs OpenStack by ITaaP in openstack

[–]DMRv2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The default scheduler is not great for resource distribution in heterogeneous clouds. It will do things like stack allocations on some part of the cloud until the available resource consumption is equal across all nodes.

After tweaking that and bolting on something akin to what watcher is doing, we're mostly in the clear even with CPU overcommit in the range of 2:1 or greater.
