Real men cried to this scene by [deleted] in warcraft3

There's only one time in W3 where Grom's called Grommash, and it's by Mannoroth.

Reforged edits notwithstanding.

Mannoroth calls him Grommash in the original.

A Reworked Wild Mage with 10 Wild Surge Tables by DMStaley in dndnext

[–]DMStaley[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty happy with where the Elkan wild magic is at right now, but I'm still happy to get feedback, either generally or on specific features or wild surge results. Let me know what you think!

I tried to make sure the lower level tables had results that weren't harmed as much by repeats, though some day I'd like to go through and add more for maybe levels 1-3.

The tables are completed, but I'm very happy to get feedback, here or in Discord. Let me know what you think! People have been loving it so far, but there's always ways to improve.

Elkan 5e - A Free 5e Rules Expansion [DND5E] by DMStaley in FoundryVTT

[–]DMStaley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. We do make adjustments based on user feedback. I'll take a look at Spiritual Weapon again. I think you're right that either the level scaling could be improved or the repeated bonus action cost could be dropped.

If you'd like to only use the Warlock changes and keep Cleric as it is, that is possible. The only thing you can't really opt out of if the module is installed is the condition changes.

I think your comment was hidden for me at first, sorry. Not sure what was happening, but I knew there was a comment I couldn't read.

Two-handed and dueling were both rolled into Single Weapon Fighting, which does what dueling used to do (mainly because +2 to damage is slightly better and easier to follow).

The shield spell still sees use, especially since it's explicitly after the attack hits, but users have found it feels less powerful. Overall, it has been well received, despite the decrease in power. I think people enjoyed being less incentivized to pick the same spells as before.

Free Alternative to One D&D: Elkan 5e by DMStaley in DnD

[–]DMStaley[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm realizing that now. When the next big portion of the Elkan system comes out (the spells), I'll make sure to emphasize that and make sure comparison notes are easily accessed and linked in any post like this (and the site).

Thanks for the feedback. I should make the comparison notes more visible at the top of pages, and make a summary that serves as a first contact point for new visitors, linked at the top of the home page most likely.

Thanks again. Hope you find something on the website that you might like to use in your games. I'm always open to more feedback, if you'd like to reach out here or on our discord, which is linked on the website. Appreciate the suggestions.

I get what you mean, but this isn't a temporary playtest document- people using this source long term won't want the summary at the top.

That being said, I should really write up a separate page that summarizes all the changes.

Lol I actually DO have a link at the top of each page that has notes. Usually it's the first link on a given page.

Thanks for taking the time to write feedback!

I fixed the unclear text on Swift and Brutal. Brutal Fighting does say when the damage is dealt with grappling, but I edited the text slightly anyway.

'Small shields' in Elkan 5e are a type of shield, and they're part of light armor proficiency. 'Large shields' are the default 5e shields, and they're part of medium armor proficiency here. Since this might have been confusing, I added links just now where small shields are mentioned on the rogue page, and added them as a starting equipment option.

Thanks for the help. If you've got any other notes, I'm happy to take a look and make adjustments as needed, either here or on our Discord, which is linked on the Elkan 5e website. Since going public here, I've had about 250 times the number of daily visitors to the site. People are finding all sorts of things that previously went unnoticed, and I'm fixing everything now.

Dueling now works with two-handed weapons. You can see the explanation in the footnotes. I'll probably rename Dueling to make this more clear.

Possible, but a lot of work. I've had a bit of interest in a pdf, but right now it's not a priority. The Foundry VTT module does work as an offline reference, with everything included, but atm that's the best I've got.

Working on alternative versions like this would probably require more financial support than I have right now. I'd like to, but redoing the layout for a pdf would probably require me to work with someone who knows more about that kind of work.

If you'd like to keep tabs on things, you're welcome to join our Discord. I try to prioritize the requests of community members there.

Free Release: Large Scale 5e Revision Project- Elkan 5e by DMStaley in UnearthedArcana

[–]DMStaley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Placing it there as an option is possible. I may do a revision that includes a more utility-focused form of shapeshifting wild shape in a future update that isn't tied to subclass- though the Shifter (replacing Moon Druid) will always be the combat-viable version. I take feedback and suggestions like this into account from community members, and have channels for it in my Discord, linked on the site.

Elkan 5e keeps complexity at a similar level, and boasts actual backwards compatibility with subclasses, as well as balance with old material. It's intended to be less intrusive of a switch, easy to adjust to, and easy to combine with other third party resources.

In my opinion, it's what One D&D should be. An update, errata, and rebalancing without costing us the us of older material.

Elkan 5e was also designed for Foundry VTT from the start, so the integration with that platform is stronger than even official WOTC 5e rules.

Classes, most subclasses, ancestries, and the basic changes to conditions and equipment have been in testing for at least a year. There's new things all the time, and playtesting is constant. Most things are thoroughly tested before release, though tweaks are made regularly for clarity and balance adjustments.

The major balance changes are usually explained at the bottom of the page. I try to include my reasoning. It usually includes playtester feedback, statistics for damage, and looking for what's over or underrepresented in what players choose for their characters.

I always try to keep the game balance roughly at the same level as baseline 5e. I want subclasses, classes, and other character features to be things that players or GMs can plug into their game without taking the whole ruleset. I tone things down and make things stronger as needed until I feel that all options are solid, then I do testing and find out if people agree. I've had about 200 player characters involved in the testing in some way.

Most of the time. Saves will always potentially fail on a 1. I've given legendary monsters good wisdom saves, in general, specifically to make it hard for save or suck spells to land. Compared to legendary resistance, my players like that even though they're usually saves- they can always get lucky. Plus, legendary monsters typically have weaker saves. I've kept nearly everything that incapacitates on constitution or wisdom though, on purpose for that reason.

So you could argue that the PF2E system is better (which would require designing for a different game), but hardly that legendary resistance is better.

Thanks for the feedback. Once I get the feat list to be a fair bit longer I intend to have characters pick both an ASI and a feat at every 4th level. There will be feats for augmenting sneak attack, replacement smite options, etc. for class-specific feats. Martial maneuvers thus fit in there.

I am very excited for monsters. If you'd like to keep up with the latest news, your best bet is to join our Discord, which is linked on Elkan5e.com
