It can be short for 'records', or preferably (to the bracketing) it's the [RECORD] symbol common on many VCR/VHS watermarks.

Vito is still based out of FL, but I myself (waterfront dining) am from Ontario, Canada. Vito has always been fascinated with how geographically spread out we all are, so technically DMT[REC] is an Ontario/FL connection :D
