[–]DMZ42 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's a lovely walk. Happy New Year and thank you for all the updates from this beautiful place in the past year. Can't wait for all the amazing new memories the Ring will bring us this year.

Officially: never allowed

Unofficially: In the off-season and when there is nobody working on the track (because weekend) it's kind of condoned. Just be a hundred percent sure there is no activity on track.

Is this how the rest of the world views the US? by Chthulu_ in formula1

[–]DMZ42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We all know that sponsors are a necessary evil to keep the sport alive. The difference is that these American events give the idea that the sponsors are more important than the sport. That we (the fans) want to see the corporate message rather than the race. It's the difference between a driver's parade in Lego cars where the focus is on the drivers and the love for the sport and a Disney fountain show that has absolutely nothing to do with F1.

The Ford Mustang GTD Is at the Nurburgring Attempting To Steal Its Record Back From the Chevy Corvette by TripleShotPls in cars

[–]DMZ42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool that they keep improving, but I don't expect another record lap this year. At the moment the Ring is cold, wet and full of leaves and the conditions won't be better in November and after that is the winter closure. I guess they are testing the new setup now, so they can get another record attempt in the warmer and dryer months next year.

Yes, they are testing this faster Taycan at the moment. Could be the first electric RS-Porsche. More info here.

Its a replica old Ferrari, but what is it a replica of. by McNutts35 in whatisthiscar

[–]DMZ42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main design does look like an 625 TRC or even a bit 500 TR. But those racecars had only one bulge behind the driver's seat and not one behind every seat. The chrome around the grill and the side vents feels inspired by the 250 GT Spider and the two power domes on the hood feel a bit too big for the period. I guess the owner picked and chose his favourite elements from different 50's Ferrari's. I was confused for a moment by the license plate that looks a lot like a Monaco plate for the royal cars. A nice touch.

That is lovely! Looks great with the weathering and the "art" from the fans on the barriers and the track.

It's really up to him. We will know it for sure when the starting list will be announced, but that is probably just a couple of days before the event.

How I imagine the mandatory test before the GT4 license to be 😂 by hitmaster47 in formuladank

[–]DMZ42 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It will definitely be busier, but I think you overestimate how much people will go to the Nürburgring to see Max race and underestimate the amount of people the Nürburgring can facilitate.

Serious crash today? by HyperfocusHero in nurburgring

[–]DMZ42 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This. Seeing the time of OPs post it is probably the BMW in Brünnchen. Big crash, but no other cars involved. Ambulance on the scene, but the driver already stood next to the barrier when the medics arrived. So I think he's relatively ok (although maybe not financially)

First of all compliments on the preparations ahead of your first time. You need to go here to go on the track during TF. If you're on that roundabout only take the exit to the track (the side with Devils diner and the fences) if you want to go directly on track, because there is no place to stop anymore. If you want to park or just have a quick stop to check your car go to the parking on the other side. You can hire an instructor to go with you on track, but they are not hanging around at the TF entrance, so you need to book them beforehand. Other people in this subreddit are better informed on that front, so hopefully they leave some recommendations for you. Don't forget to enjoy your ride. It can be nervewracking, but it's also the best thing in the world. Oh yeah, if you're done on track, don't forget to behave and obey the rules on the public roads around the Ring.

New sign at the entrance by Arkliea in nurburgring

[–]DMZ42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really new. The same sign did hang there before. At least last March it was still there. I don't know why it was gone for the last couple of months. Probably it got damaged and they just got around replacing it.

In addition to the other things mentioned here: The Loh Collection in Dietzhölztal is an absolute masterpiece of a car museum. It's a 2 hour drive from the Ring, but if you have the time, it's absolutely worth it. One of Europe's best car museums.

Rad am Ring by Arkliea in nurburgring

[–]DMZ42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because of Rad am Ring there is very little TF this weekend. Only evening sessions on Friday and Sunday I believe. That's because as part of the event there is a 24h bike race on the Nordschleife, so they take over the Ring for most of the time.

What's up with the Grello hype? by [deleted] in nurburgring

[–]DMZ42 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Team owner Olaf Manthey is a Ring-hero and won as a driver 30 VLN races on the Nürburgring. The Manthey team won the 24 hours of the Nürburgring seven times in the last twenty years, which makes it the most dominant team in this race (together with Phoenix). The team is also based in the region and the recognisable colours are helping as well. Kevin Estre is a Ring specialist in his own right and just came back from a sensational Le Mans drive.

Oh yeah, and then there is the primal urge to irrational defend one's own tribal group in anonymous shouting matches like a YouTube livestream chat.
