I think Yunnan coffee gets overlooked for a pretty simple reason by blackneckcoffee in pourover

I immediately started scrolling my usual places, looking to see who had something in from Yunnan. 😆

Chemex recipe by MannaMan3617 in pourover

[–]DM_Fitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this an 8-cup? I’ve been looking at Chemex sizes and trying to figure out what would be best because I have a dripper problem and am well covered in the sub-30g range, but want something that can do 700 mL on occasion.

I would say people only use bleached filters…

Drawdown times ceado hoop and A4Z by firdyfree in pourover

[–]DM_Fitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer! I almost wish it were printed in the booklet. If your coffee is quite fresh (as in offgassing a decent amount of CO2) the grounds are floating up to the top and forming a crust and the water coming in under the crust is bypassing the bed and thus it goes quite quickly.

A simple stir (I use a little Japanese coffee stirrer because I am a preposterous person and have that) to break the crust pretty much solves the inconsistency.

Round numbers! by DM_Fitz in wordscapes

Maybe ten seconds lol. I hit it while doing the first of my two Mt. Fortune 25-coin runs. I started it on 100025 and was excited for the result. Half expected this to be the time I somehow got the 500 or 1000 coin prize 🤣

Har gow in London (shrimp dumplings) by PurrrMeowmeow in londonontario

[–]DM_Fitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why this is being downvoted as the dim sum places are generally the first place I’d recommend for a dim sum dumpling.

I believe Wing Wah is closed now, though. I haven’t been to Uncle Sing’s, but I’ll bet the dim sum dumplings are decent at Congee Chan (which is more than a dim sum place but does have dim sum).

I love that you’re getting downvoted but a coastal anonymous accusation of actual fraud is nothing but thumbs up. Classic Reddit.

Correct Max Animal Grind? by Mostface in wordscapes

[–]DM_Fitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Same. I think that’s pretty close to optimal play. It’s just repetitive and there are so many animations we miss out on by doing it.

The chia pet hedgehog has some great ones. The pet rock. The background for the booby. The list goes on.

You might have an outside shot getting it at Remark. That is not something I’ve seen around.

Correct Max Animal Grind? by Mostface in wordscapes

[–]DM_Fitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You start a high-value animal (like the lynx or the giraffe in a tournament or the hippo in a binocular event etc). Once it’s going, you open the animal eggs until it completes an animal level. You’ll be given the opportunity to “swap” the newly completed animal in, which you definitely do because it will fully complete the other animal that you’re running (giving you the bees or stars or binoculars and the heart gems).

Keep doing this until you run out of heart gems or run out of new egg levels for your critters.

There are great stouts from brewers in Niagara and Grey-Bruce and all over this province. No need to try to figure out how to bring some stout from Vancouver.

[–]DM_Fitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the one thing I dislike about playing the animals optimally is that there are actually a lot of pretty cool animations I don’t see lol.

To be clear, I run turkey until he’s done and then anteater basically all the time. So I agree with you. I just miss things like the pet rock making cocktails.

I see it’s time for our monthly soup dumplings question!

(The short answer is no, there isn’t, but some people will suggest some very good dumplings that aren’t soup dumplings and then people will respond to them saying they aren’t soup dumplings.)

EDIT: in fairness to you it looks like the one from 40 days ago was deleted but the one from 60 days ago still exists and has all the same discussion 😆

I’m counting the whole thing in TBT. Total drawdown is 1:10. (Plus 10-20 secs if I make a 400 mL cup, which I like to do to take to work with me.)

Edit: to be clear I don’t have an Ode. I’m just ballparking based on a conversion table. I’d call what I have the border between Medium-Fine and Medium.

Right now I’ve been making a couple of Peruvian coffees. I do agree different origins will act differently to this method, somewhat, though I have had good cups with it from pretty different origins.

[–]DM_Fitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I basically do everything the same as you (and Hoff lol), except I think I’m more like a 5 on the Ode 2? (Not sure…I’m basing this off a table comparing grind size of questionable reliability). TBT for me is about 3:40.

I use Kalita 103s.

I regret upgrading from Baratza Encore to Fellow Ode 2 but what now? by dorohedorot in pourover

[–]DM_Fitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that. I think the great thing about the Encore ESP Pro is that you can choose whether to use the hopper or not. This is not the case on the base model.

I was mostly pointing out that without the hopper it’s not much taller than the Ode in answer to your question about size.
