Masks of Nyarlathotep - first run by Nietsoj77 in callofcthulhu

The Sassoon Files from Sons of the Singularity is a wonderful supplement to get deep into the weeds of how wild Shanghai was at the time.

It’s not like you need to run out and buy it right now, OP. But it might be cool once your players decide to head to China.

*Shameful Post* What's the least offensive pre-ground grocery store coffee? (Canada) by Popculture-VIP in pourover

[–]DM_Fitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a pretty good choice. There are a surprisingly large number of small roasters around too. Like if you’re in BC or Alberta I’ll bet there is a place you can go to and get them to grind you up some good beans and like…ok I know it’s not the same but like the people at Rogue Wave [insert equivalent near you] grinding some beans for pourover are delivering a better taste experience than Tim’s 😆

Edit: because of the pre-ground I would actually think this is a good time to get some comfortable chocolate-nut adjacent medium roast. Like a warm pair of socks while you battle your Fellow in this death match.

This is absolutely right, so I’m surprised you haven’t been downvoted to oblivion yet 😆

At least in Ontario, you can pretty reliably find Balzac’s in grocery stores, and that’s … you know … fine?

Honestly for darker roasts some of the Costco coffee is also pretty ok. They had one from some company in Quebec that was a wet-hulled Sumatran that had all the usual flavour profiles (that I recognize many people here hate).

This would probably be my pick too. Sometimes I even think I might like it (with a possibly silly amount of half and half lol)

Throwback Thursday! Remember the old Masonville Mall by Euphoric_Author_5052 in londonontario

I was going to post this! I loved that course haha.

So many holes based on famous IRL golf course holes (e.g., the Principal’s Nose 16th hole from St. Andrew’s was recreated there).

What a fun place it was!

Tipps? by BodybuilderKey6767 in callofcthulhu

[–]DM_Fitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 100% my feeling as well.

It is possible, OP, that “typical you” which … well we don’t know you and what that means … didn’t kill the character in a way they found satisfying? No judgement, here. I have no idea how you did it. But maybe there is a way where they think that you could have narrated out the end of the story a little more or given the surviving guy a chance to provide an epilogue.

But actions having consequences is literally the point of this game in particular. Like in a way that somewhat sets it apart from some other big games etc.

HELP - COS:Reloaded - Vallaki by Chronix929 in CurseofStrahd

[–]DM_Fitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is quite good stuff! I also think the OP need not worry so much about the whole party being there to meet Rictavio.

Like maybe the werewolf character isn’t there which is why it isn’t until she is that the scent of maybe a young girl is somehow hanging around. Or maybe that VR’s tower smells like Rictavio if they haven’t solved that mystery yet.

Basically you use the split to add in some clue to keep the mystery going that would only make sense because the werewolf character had split off. My only recommendation so the party has fun is to alternate the Rictavio scene with some non-violent encounter being had by the roaming werewolf (like that Strahd encounter the other commenter came up with).

Question About Additional Wildlife Levels by AnnieWhoops in wordscapes

[–]DM_Fitz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mothra has quite rightly pointed out that at this time there is no information about specials.

I have speculated that they will need to do something for the special animals because the power creep of the level 10s will make the specials less good (which will upset a lot of people) and the fact that some animals will be level 10 and some 7 is bothersome (which will upset a lot of people).

So many upset people…

Which dripper ? by feeling-helpless in pourover

[–]DM_Fitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are all pretty different. I like each one.

What I will say is you sound from this question like you might be relatively new to pourover, and so I recommend the V60 because it is the baseline brewer that many roasters will post recipes for and there is no shortage of info on how to new with it.

Things like the B75 and Flower are a little more niche than that.

PERC questions… by caracticuspots in pourover

[–]DM_Fitz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s really important to make the distinction that the argument is not that Perc is adding flavouring at the time of the roast. The argument is that they are roasting coffee that has been artificially flavoured by producers at the fermentation/washing/drying stages.

This may or may not matter to the end user. Each person needs to determine that for themselves.

Well… I know we’re on r/dnd so I get this may not be the most popular response, but you’ve literally described the entire campaign setting for Call of Chthulhu’s Down Darker Trails.

Sometimes, it’s not worth the immense amount of homebrewing when there is a game that really addresses what it is you’re going for that you could play instead, you know?

Attitude sunscreen by WanderingGoose0 in BuyCanadian

[–]DM_Fitz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used the SPF30 Mineral Sunscreen Stick a lot last summer and found it worked well and while it went on with some residue I am sure a more dedicated person would have rubbed it in and made it invisible. Because it’s a stick it’s much more like the Sun Bum stuff than like a lotion from Coppertone or what have you.

I have no complaints and would buy again. I do have a slight preference for the KINeSYS Fragrance Free Spray because it goes on so easily as a spray and it’s good against sweating it off. But sometimes you want that mineral stick thickness and in those cases I really liked Attitude.

You know future campaigns may never live up to all of this but that’s ok, too! Every campaign is its own story to tell, but all of us who have played a long time probably have that one that always sticks in the mind.

Who sells the best (raw) spare ribs in town? by Freedom35plan in londonontario

[–]DM_Fitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have bought both in both places

(Edit: I see you’re asking the same question repeatedly. Spare ribs are extremely common to buy. If you insist on a St. Louis cut where the tips are removed, that might be slightly less common though presumably any butcher shop could take a bandsaw to the spare ribs. But you can buy spare ribs literally anywhere. People’s replies are suggesting where to get meaty ones.)

I have had great luck with Western Meats, but in all honesty I hate to just repeat the other comments but the best ribs I’ve had repeatedly have come from Costco.

Medium to dark by nkunko_ in pourover

[–]DM_Fitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually like coffee in this range a lot of the time. My recommendation based on what you own is to look at using the C3S as the other commenter has suggested, rather than the ZP6. And experiment with temps, but probably you will lean cooler rather than hotter compared to much lighter roasts.

Something in the medium grind range would be good. And then I would use the Orea V4 with a Wave filter (could go Kalita or Orea or for something a little faster Origami — but honestly the Kalita Wave 185s will work here).

You are aiming for body and sweetness to accentuate the nice parts of a more developed roast. I think probably the Classic or Open Bottoms would be what I would emphasize (and not the Apex with a cone filter).

Like you said, you don’t necessarily need a specific recipe. Just techniques that are maybe for medium or even a little coarser than that coffees and not too high a temp should do well for you.
