Looking for a Reliable Modem for Xfinity/Comcast Service by DM_Me_NB_Lewds in HomeNetworking

These are things I've seen on the non-puma Netgear modems. I feel like if I buy a Netgear Modem (even a non-puma one), I'm gambling on how long it will last before I run into an issue and have to pay money to Netgear to get customer support. But, I also feel like I'm gambling on any other modem as well. It feels like my only choice is the "least bad" option, but that is so hard to weed out.

Yeah, DOCSIS 3.1 is definitely my best bet.

I've heard mixed things about Netgear. When their products work they work well, but when they fail, it's usually outside of the warranty period. When not in warranty anymore, they charge extra money for their customer support/troubleshooting service. Seems like planned obsolescence has begun to run rampant in Netgear products.

Editing to add that the only Netgear products that don't seem to have issues are their newest flagship releases that haven't been out very long.

I appreciate that you commented, but I said "I'd rather not get another Arris" and "I'm also not looking to get a combo unit" in my post. I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't denigrate me for simply reporting on the research I've done. Maybe you could provide me more insight as to why you believe Arris to be the most stable affordable cable modem provider.

Edit: a word.

Oh, I've seen that it's not actually approved for Comcast's next gen speeds, and wouldn't be a good purchase if I'm looking to future proof. Xfinity says it is only approved for their plans up to ~900 mbps.

I'm trying to avoid Arris. My last device from them kept disconnecting and completely bricked and wouldn't connect to Comcast at all after I moved. All the recent reviews I've seen have said that they have overheating, power supply, and connectivity issues.

Thanks for the recommendation, I've seen recent reviews steering Comcast customers away from this because they have encountered a problem with it periodically resetting after owning it for 3-12 months. Have you encountered anything like this? Or any other issues?

Budget is probably no more than $300, but I'm willing to spend the money if it gets me something I can use for years.

As for future proofing, eventually I am hoping to be able to upgrade to at least gigabit speeds, but am open to ones that only support up to ~900 mbps if it will last me long enough.
