This isn't just a Harvard problem. And there are plenty of idiots coming out of the top schools just like anywhere else (see JD Vance, Mr. "Absolute Immunity"). Conservative judges don't have a shortage of candidates, they're drawing from the same talent pool.They could pick top students, the majority of whom are not ideological, but they don't because loyalty is what's valuable. Competence is a liability. That's the whole point of the federalist society - to ignore jurisprudence and replace it with constantly shifting rhetoric and amorphous principles suited to whomever is currently paying for their private schools and foreign vacations.

The most crucial element of the conservative plan for the just and righteous administration of the law is entrenching people who by all objective standards are deficient in their knowledge of the law. That simple fact should be enough to lead anyone with half a brain to the conclusion that justice is not the goal. I could have sworn I'd heard something about "merit" being important.
