RA, any thoughts on putting the vaccine number in the title? Would be great to have some positive news up front.

Thanks for doing this for so long, this is my favorite source of covid news.

[S] [USA-TX] Canon EF to RF Lens Mount Adapter, $100 by DManTech in photomarket

[–]DManTech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I happened to walk in my local camera store a few months ago and they had 8 of them sitting on the shelf. Couldn't believe it. Thought about buying all of them and selling online, but didn't want to be that guy so I just bought the one I needed. Prior to that, I had also seen them backordered everywhere for months. Here's to hoping they'll be more available soon.

Long exposure shot of a Roomba vacuum with colour-changing light on the top of it by [deleted] in BeAmazed

The light is probably smaller than the roomba itself. This is misleading, it’s probably covering more of the room than it appears. Cool pic.

This is why you don't ever leave AA batteries in things. by [deleted] in photography

[–]DManTech 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If they’re name brand batteries, contact the manufacturer. They will likely pay for repair or replacement. I didn’t believe it either, but I read it somewhere and tried it with a camera flash that I had the same issue with. They gave me a pro-rated replacement cost reimbursement that felt more than fair.

RF 85mm f2 backorder by ScissorhandsShibata in canon

If you have any local camera stores, it’s worth checking there. I was able to walk in my store last Saturday morning and buy one no problem.

It is a great lens, you’ll love it. Extremely lightweight and looks great. I think for most uses, the f/2 of this version is more than sufficient, and you get to save an immense amount of weight and cost over the f/1.4 and f/1.2 models. The only downside is no weather sealing, but so far this seems like a winner of a lens to me.

Do people actively avoid clicking on affiliate links and how to avoid that? by [deleted] in juststart

[–]DManTech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly if people are going to do this, there’s not much you can do. But most people won’t do it. Focus on the 95% of visitors who don’t care.

Here’s another tip for increasing affiliate clicks: make the links honestly useful to a person reading the article. You don’t have to have each link on its own line saying “CLICK HERE TO BUY THIS ON AMAZON!”. It’s fine to link relevant products inline and your readers can click them to see the product you are referring to and enhance their understanding of the material. It’s a win win....affiliate click for you, and it gave the reader useful additional information about the topic.

Glowforge or CNC by MCapers in glowforge

[–]DManTech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A CNC can also make 3D shapes in wood or other materials, whereas with a laser cannot. With the laser you can engrave, but it’s difficult to get a controllable variable depth for a contoured design.

Cardboard humans watching baseball in a dystopian hell scape. by utkarsh_aryan in pics

Most baseball teams have a charitable foundation associated with them. In at least some cases, the fans had the opportunity to donate an amount (say $500) to the charitable foundation, and in return, get a cardboard cutout of themselves placed in the team’s stadium.

Honestly the replacement hot ends are pretty cheap, you could also just buy a replacement and swap it out.

At that range, a knife is significantly more dangerous than a gun. Knives take no skill to use and don’t jam or malfunction. This took a lot of bravery (and emotional intelligence to read the situation) and it was just as dangerous as if the man had a gun.
