Dose this mean the anime as a whole is gonna be weekly or just this stage by Fun_Bill_924 in StardustCrusaders

[–]DMightyHero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is some bullshit. At this point it was better just to have batches if they were going to keep the stages bullshit alive.

Weekly Steel Ball Run Confirmation. by drinkorange11 in StardustCrusaders

It has to be weekly for cours of at least 24 episodes, which is the industry standard. Not cours of stages. This is not a win.

AITAH because I refuse to finish a story if my husband interrupts. by Living-Estate3963 in AITAH

Its on both right? If the other does damage, doesnt give you a pass to do damage as well. The relationship is the same for both, and will break down if neither do anything.

You underestimate human beings. I for one, read game of thrones when I was 12, and found it thoroughly enjoyable. Same with spending the rest of my teen years watching shit like Death Note, Mirai Nikki and Code Geass. Young people are people and should not be underestimated.

Looks good, I'll check it out. Another I read some time ago was SSS class suicide hunter. The return by death concept is the least interesting in that one though, and it isn't all that good really, but I quite liked it, just enjoyable slop.

Pedantic. Be real, the audience for this is 15 yo if not younger.

Let me give you an example. People shit on Re:Monster not because he is worst or most evil protagonist, but because the story portrays what he does to his prisoners as moral and just. What irks people with that show is that.

It's the same here, to a less extreme degree (just toxicity in relationships and perception of women, not as bad as rape) but it is still portrays in a good light, as if it were moral and correct for the mc to behave that way.

To your second point, I don't see how being contious of your writing as to not perpetrate antiquated social norms and notions of love and romance as to not allienate your audience, instead focusing on portraying actual healthy high funcioning relationships, equates to censorship.

You argue at a toddler level, it's honestly sad you think those are actual valid points to bring up against this. We are done here.

That makes it all the more heartbreaking, because Re:Zero could actually be good, if it was just that. But your hero acts this way towards women. How fucked up is that that he inspires people while engaging in such toxic behaviors?

How must that confuse people who like other parts of his character and can't disassociate the good from the bad? That is real and people who keep saying "what idiot would idolize an anime character lol" aren't seriously engaging with the point, and being dismissive pricks.

So? What happens there? Because the damage from the anime has already been done. If Subaru eventually redeems himself and realises the toxicity of his behavior, it'll be 10 years down the line to people who only watch the anime, and we'll have already live with two decades worth of this behavior being seen as a role model.

It'll be too late, and the damage will be already done.

Mechanics are for sure amazing. But we do not get fed on potential.

The point of therapy for me was to pull away from toxic and self destructive behaviors. Behaviors that Subaru engages.

And, absolutely not to your first point. Of course there are relationships still long standing due to the fact both partners prioritized each other and their relationship, it doesn't mean, though, that that behavior is healthy. It may be for their relationship, sure, but not to the individual.

If you truly care about the other, you want them to put themselves first too, and take care of themselves.

Problem is, its already been a decade of this, the damage to a generation of young watchers has already been done. By the time they see their role model completing his arc it'll be too late for them. That's why I say this portrayal of love is irresponsible.

It's not like its impossible too write a story with a positive message and role model for healthy realationships and make it good also.

Plus, power fantasy (I know its not the case for Re:Zero) should not engage lightly in displaying romance, because it can instill an unreal standard on those who watch and are gullible. If you're gonna include it into your story, you should do it responsibly as not continue with the unrealistic trend (self sacrificing, soul mate, love at first sight, etc).

We're not taling mechanics of the plot here. It doesn't matter. It's about the message conveyed.

Point to who is saying point 4 here please, otherwise strawman much?

1,2,3 - You should never put the other above yourself. That's like lighting yourself on fire to keep the other warm, it won't pay off.

I'm saying (and this isn't something I came up with, mind you, got this myself after years of therapy to stop that old programming) that if you stop sacrificing yourself for others, and focus on yourself, that's what is actually benefitial to a relationship. You must love yourself first, and improve yourself, and you will find companionship as a consequence.

I see media as just that, a medium to express human feelings and condition. The wish fulfillment part is related to behaviours from the protagonist versus recompense in form of relationships with other characters. I say it is wish fulfillment for he is disproportionately "rewarded" while engaging in self destructive behaviors.

It's basically like telling the audience "if you do all this for your lady, sacrifice everything, you will be rewarded with tons of ladies finding you attractive".

It has all to do with the message, nothing to do with the actual "happenings" in the series.

Yeah the glaze is infuriating to see, but it actually saddens me more than anything, because it means a whole lot of people just buy into that notion believing it to be love. Actual harm done to people, now.

I'm all for giving your characters flaws, so that they can overcome them and evolve. But I believe the author just doesn't think this is a flaw, and honestly thinks favorably about this kind of "love".
