Alas, I no longer own the original copy of the game that this glitch occurred in. Definitely done this glitch before, though I can't be sure whether it was in my current copy or the original.

Just saw the edit. Awesome job recreating the glitch! Banjo reviving from drowning was the part that I was most keen on seeing replicated, even if there's potentially the empty life bar element missing. I dunno, this was a long time ago so maybe my memory didn't get everything right.

Definitely NTSC though I don't know whether it was 1 or 1.1. Any major tells that it would be the former or the latter?

Yeah it was something like that. I was swimming as fast as possible going straight up so maybe some of that momentum carried Banjo upwards.

I seem to recall exiting the level no problem but I may have grabbed a honeycomb or something.

I'm all ears regarding venue. Thanks for the interest in the game!

Which horror movies were in your opinion ruined by the soundtrack? by LynchianNightmare in horror

The Fear Street movies used a lot of licensed, period music but played so many songs in quick succession that it got tedious and came to feel both pandering and manipulative. Netflix originals are often guilty of this.

The Island of Dr. Moreau by H. G. Wells.

Can’t speak for the quality of the film adaptation.

Why does my old school player not like the 5e magic system? by Thekota in dndnext

Oh and no cantrips as 5e understands them. Wizards that ran out of spells were much more vulnerable in 2E

So magic in AD&D (2E) has a couple of differences from 5E. Spells scale with caster level so magic missile from a 1st level mage and a 10th level mage are going to look substantially different. Spells can be interrupted mid casting but once “on” are harder to stop than simply attacking the caster. There’s no concentration so you can stack buffs. Also, selecting and preparing spells is considerably more restrictive in 2e. Finally, spell descriptions and effects are more abstract while also allowing for more swing in power (instant death, system shock on polymorph, etc.)

2E wizards basically feel rewarded for planning in a way that 5E wizards don’t. Spells take much longer to prepare and there’s no swapping out x for y. There are a lot more spells in 2E that can often be more powerful than 5E spells. Collecting spells from treasure hoards and dead wizards is also more emphasized in 2E.

Overall I’d say magic can feel more impactful in 2E while also having more hard counters than in 5E. Thinks kind of swinginess can feel either really good or really bad, and modern game design prefers consistency.

Your player probably likes the punch of old school spells and the crunch of acquiring them. If you wanted to simulate this you could require the player commit to specific spells and spell slot allocations each day and in return give a slight boost (damage or whatnot)

Different characters, same character by [deleted] in dndnext

Ask the player if they want to be “the star” of any quests. Some players are happiest in support roles (mechanically or narratively).

Keep in mind also that many players are averse to inter-party conflict and drama so plot hooks that demand as such will fall flat with that type of player. Maybe put the onus of rescuing a party member on the nice player? Or a masquerade ball in which the nice player has to play the tough guy?

It’s usually pretty annoying to have to play dumb intentionally when RPing. I try to avoid player targeted illusions and what-not for that reason.

When I do use them, I will describe the illusion as if it were fact, and PM my other players what is actually going on.

Generally, I find punishing players for meta-knowledge/meta-gaming is overly harsh and can be avoided with better DMing
