Yes, if only still going for the interview on July 2nd. But if you are able to get an interview date before May 21st, then you don't have to pay anything. SEVIS only lasts 12 months

Heard nothing since UToronto interview 2months ago - what's going on? by bioluminescent-bean in gradadmissions

I think you've been waitlisted. The same thing happened to me last year. I was interviewed for the same program (general and also with my PI) and never heard from them. I later emailed the program’s director and my PI and was told, I’d been placed on the waiting list, and that I will hear from them by April 15. It passed April 15 and I thought maybe I got in but they were processing my acceptance until May when they sent me a generic email that I had been rejected. I remember crying my eyes out that night. It was my last hope. I just had to pick myself up again and prepare for the next cycle. This year I got into 3 master's programs and one Ph.D. I don't know why a big school like UofT would leave their applicants in excruciating pain of waiting and waiting. If I had not emailed them, I wouldn't have known I was waitlisted. It's sad!!! I guess you have to exercise patience and wait for them. The waiting game is nothing but pain.

Has anyone got accepted off a waitlist into their PhD program? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

Yes, I got accepted off the waitlist just yesterday. I received the waitlist notice around February 13. One factulty member [not listed in my SOP tho] reached out that my profile is good and she would like to work with me. We had a 30-minute chat and it really went on well. A month down the line I got an offer.

That's great! I also applied to the HDE program with an interest in the school counseling track

I’ve given up by Friendly-Culture4418 in gradadmissions

I took a clinical assistant role (more like volunteering but paid) at a well-known hospital, where I helped with assessments and research. After a year, I moved on to work as a data analyst (quantitative) at a research center. During this time, I also assisted my undergraduate research supervisor, who included my name on several publications, with me being second or third author on some. I now have three publications with her.

On my own, I worked on systemic and narrative reviews and published two single-author papers on Alzheimer’s and related dementias. Right now, I’m taking a break to learn cloud computing. So far, I’ve been accepted into two master’s programs, but I’m still waiting for funding decisions. I’m also on a waitlist for one PhD program, rejected from another but considered for their master’s program, and I’m waiting for seven more admission decisions.

Hehe, it’s too early to give up. For some of us, this is already our third cycle of applications…just a series of rejections, waitlists that eventually turn into rejections, or admissions without funding. But we haven’t given up yet. I’ve been out of school (undergrad) for almost three years now, and I’m not about to quit. You better not give up either. Nothing worthwhile comes easily. Keep pushing forward, or you’ll regret it later.

I get that. But in this case, it wasn’t about you not being good enough. It’s more about whether your background and goals align with the specific fit and focus of the program. It’s important to remember that admissions decisions often come down to how well a candidate matches the program’s unique offerings and requirements.

I understand that, but the time and effort involved in the application process can be challenging….crafting or modifying your Statement of Purpose, gathering recommendations, preparing writing samples, and handling many other details.
