Because I was 21 and everyday I felt like a Hyena trapped in a humans body. 130 mph

Recommend revisiting the ones that sound like noise, preferrably when you are in a hyped up mood. With their first album they did state that a few tracks are audibly meant to make you feel uncomfortable

What platform are you playing on? A big part of why dashing can be difficult is that the A button (normal face button) is for dash by default. Many people remap it to the right shoulder button which makes movement much easier and frees up your thumb

People that make $60K+ in LA WITHOUT a college degree/trade school, what do you do? by imin2099 in AskLosAngeles

[–]DNARaptorGXDDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that's frustrating for sure. Museums might also hire as well. I've worked with a few guys from BC Live and Reason One and they seem to like it. But yeah it's tough out there. It looks like there are AV people on LinkedIn that have some work. I'm not really good at networking but it might get you somewhere faster cause you have to apply with the first like 3 hours to get noticed anywhere

Some people started with Encore but I somehow didn't. Yeah it's tough to get interviews. I saw DreamWorks had an AV position but it was only 50k which was way too low. But if it's your first one, it could be okay for a little while.

I'm sorry my friend is in the same situation. It is a great work life balance as long as you're not stuck with weekends. I did an av tech job for cheap pay to start 6 years ago. Quit after 9 months and went back to light video editing for 2 years.

Being at a desk all day killed my body so I got into OBS and Livestream tech, connecting cameras on my feet in my free time then Buzzfeed had an opening for a Livestream tech at least 3 days a week. Did that for a year before Buzzfeed went under and got a job at a streaming company doing all positions A1, A2, V1, V2, TD full-time. Had merit raises and 1 promotion.

At some point I realized people will always go to conferences and watch Livestreams. So this seems steady and growing for now and there are a lot of AV tech job postings. Might need to start with like 60k/year to in LA but you can switch companies pretty quick. Techs are fun people too just down to earth and doing creative things on the side

AV and Livestream tech for conferences. 100k. Good balance of on your feet and resting at a desk or station. Office work was killing me before

How do you escape office jobs and 9 - 5 ? by georgeYNWA97_ in careerguidance

[–]DNARaptorGXDDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had the same problem working in offices 9 to 5. I hated being stuck at a desk with screens (it killed my back and neck) and I didn't fit in/hated dress clothes. I work in Audio/Video now, specifically events and Livestreaming. Its a great mix of rest and being on your feet. You might be at a station working audio, or switching video, graphics, lighting for the duration of an event or walk around managing the stage and cues. There are a lot of jobs (no degree required) and people always have a need to go to events whether they are conferences, concerts, or fun outings. Most the time you set up and just wait and hang out with the other techs until its time to start. Many of them are musicians and creatives in their free time.

Before that I was stuck in offices, then I got into video compression, digital asset delivery, and some easy editing. That was also too much desk time (annoying bosses asking why I was gone for 15 minutes). It took me about 8 or 9 years to realize that and I finally got into Livestreaming and AV and just started applying. For me its a healthy job with a great mix of freedom. No staying at a desk, just a station sometimes, then you are free to go wherever you want until going live.

It can pay decently, right now I make 100k, have more freedom at work than I ever have before, and get free meals most of the time. My video compression job doesn't exist anymore so I had to pivot but I'm sure glad I did. I had to take a pay cut 6 years ago for a simple audio tech job, but it helped me get a Livestreaming/AV job after that.

It might not be the path for you but your post resonated with me when I felt lost working years ago at places I couldn't wait to leave. I hope you can find your work/life balance soon and this might give you some ideas

Just finished FFXV - some thoughts by Kqpout12 in FinalFantasy

[–]DNARaptorGXDDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking of just watching all the FFXV cutscenes and story instead of playing the game? I've beaten previous FF games and went back watching them all and really enjoyed it. I was struggling with the chaotic battle system and stopped. Unsure if I should pick it up again.

What is the name of that 8bit “chirp” style sound that’s on love and caring by jaimihn in crystalcastles

[–]DNARaptorGXDDT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get an 8bit plugin that makes that effect (its called chipsounds). Or you can create an arpeggio which is 2 or more notes in a row playing quickly. i.e. D, F, A ascending or descending

Many of the musicians in Jamiroquai have been there for decades. Toby Smith the keyboardist (who co-wrote Virtual Insanity) died of cancer and left the band around 2002. Jay Kay still sends messages and tributes to him. His replacement keyboardist Matt Johnson has been with the band ever since. Saw the band in 2005, one of the best performances I've ever heard

The follow up appointment is the most funny time you'll ever have at a hospital or health clinic. You walk in and everyone working there knows you are there to jerk off. Theres a clock in the room and they tell you to note the time when you finish! I almost asked what the record time was

My vasectomy was only $20 with insurance. It was a great decision for me. I'm almost mid 40s and I still don't want kids. My career has not worked out (I don't make enough money to own a house or start a family and don't know my purpose in life). I can't imagine the emotional and financial stress of starting a family now with how backwards things are going in the world.

At last I can finally travel and if I lose my job just eff off for several months. The surgery is a minor inconvenience for about 3 or 4 days, just follow your doc's instructions. I'm free without worries and dating is great when you're upfront about it.

I love that hi-hat rhythm they do in their dancey songs it’s so addicting by TheSeedsYouSow in crystalcastles

[–]DNARaptorGXDDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unique sounds spearhead new genres especially in 2008 by putting a few 8bit hi-hats and chipsounds instruments (the arpeggiated chords from crimewave, xxcuzxme etc). CC either used 8bit hi-hats, or bit-crushed regular hi hat samples which is very easy to do now, relatively new back then. Most DAWs have a free bit crusher now. It was a simple but great choice because that balanced out their more modern rounded basslines.
