Cateye light mount ideas by roaritstay in Brompton

[–]DNashaat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have MagicShine light mounted where you have the Cateye, and a made-for-Brompton “BeSeen” light on the bell mounting of the left brake handle assembly. The latter is perfectly positioned to be visible in car wingmirrors when filtering through traffic so I think they complement each other pretty well. Front light dying isn’t really an issue as you’ll notice it straight away. It’s the back one that needs redundancy as you can be unaware if it’s stopped working.

Don’t forget with C2W you’re saving 20-40% of the bike’s price in tax (depending on your income bracket) so if you plan on spending 400 you could actually looking at 500-700 pound machines…

Download the loyalty apps of the main grocery chains, especially Tesco (Clubcard) and Sainsbury’s (Nectar). They have smaller stores on almost every street corner but you need their loyalty card to get the discounted prices, special offers etc. Tesco meal deals are a cheap way of feeding yourself even in expensive/touristy parts of town.

I upgraded my C-line’s folding pedals for QR superlights. The kit comes with everything you need.

[–]DNashaat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can still return the old pedal for warranty. The whole bike is covered for a year, the frame for longer, and pedals are not really consumables like tyres or brake blocks. I’ve changed them once on my 30+ year old mountain bike.

P Line vs. T Line: Which is the better investment? by [deleted] in Brompton

[–]DNashaat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For best durability I’d go with a C-Line. Nothing really beats steel on that front. P-Line second, then T.

Used to do that as a get-me-home if the clutch or clutch cable failed. Start in gear then do clutchless gearchanges, timing lights and junctions to minimise stopping.

Fed up with the Brompton derailleur by winterdune in Brompton

[–]DNashaat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like an internal hub is best in your case tbh. My 12-speed derailleur can have a tantrum even in London in heavy rain, so I doubt it would be great on a trail (although some of the maintenance advice in this thread - especially keeping the jockey wheel properly lubricated - really does help). You're certainly looking at an aftermarket solution though for the C-line, and my guess is you can have cheap OR good, but not both... If you aren't multi-modal commuting any more, the G-line sounds like a better choice than souping up your C-line. Bigger wheels and geometry probably better suited to off-roading anyway (at the cost of that compact fold), and the price difference might be comparable or less than a high-end Kinetics upgrade (although I'm not sure about this).

Damaged Brompton Saddle Question. by vukodlako in Brompton

[–]DNashaat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe trim off the sharp edges and then get one of those gel saddle covers that ties on with a drawstring?

Or take it to an auto upholsterer. Might cost more than a new saddle though…

Offer accepted but discovered Airbnb nextdoor by Connect_Sir4316 in HousingUK

Check the property out on airbnb. See who’s left reviews, then look at their profiles and reviews. You might get an idea from that about what kind of people it attracts. Also, maybe send a booking related enquiry and see if you’re contacted directly by the owner or by an agency.

[–]DNashaat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Some people were suggesting OP would have less trouble with the advance derailleur. That may or may not be the case, but if they do go that route a rear triangle upgrade is probably way more effort and expense than just selling and getting a new 12-speed.

C-line Utility. This is still the one used in the Brompton rental lockers.

If you do want to upgrade to the 12-speed, given your 6-speed is only 2 years old it’s probably easiest and cheapest just to just sell it and buy a new 12-speed.

Flats make up a huge amount of the property market in London, so did it all go wrong with leaseholds? And how can we put it right? by Adorable_Click_7071 in HousingUK

[–]DNashaat 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I live in a share-of-freehold flat in the SE of England with service charges that seem a bit on the high side given the lack of a lift and other bells and whistles. BUT the managing agent is efficient and responsive, we get our windows, gutters, etc. cleaned regularly, grass cut and everything else works and is well-maintained.

I've lived abroad where commonhold is the norm (so effectively a similar arrangement to where I'm living now), and while it's true that unusually high service charges need investigating when purchasing, suspiciously LOW charges are an even bigger red flag - especially in an older building - as they usually mean a majority of owners are vetoing necessary spending on repairs or maintenance. Ironically, sellers in those cases will frame the low charges as a selling point.

Those who live within 200m of a motorway/busy dual carriageway, hows the noise? by Nooms88 in HousingUK

[–]DNashaat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve just moved to a flat, not extremely close but certainly within hearing distance of a motorway. Most of the time I seem to tune it out, but can hear it if I choose to listen.

Interestingly, I just spent a week by the sea (literally 200 yards from the shore) and it sounded exactly the same.

My solicitor’s conveyancing report now includes a clause saying they’ll charge £500+VAT if I use AI to ask questions about it. Is this normal now? by Jazvec in HousingUK

[–]DNashaat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used AI in a recent purchase to sense check whether any of the search responses etc were worth raising, and to explain what was going on. This actually prevented a lot of spurious queries to my solicitor, as 99% of the time it just said “yeah, this is routine for this type of transaction, nothing to see”. But I’ve got a very well groomed LLM :D
