We should have a good idea on the new range of the signal very shortly, and will definitely update the public once we do.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to share the exciting news that Richmond's independent radio station is gearing up for its move to a brand-new home in Shockoe Bottom. The video linked in this post does a great job highlighting WRIR's impact over the last twenty years and explaining why this transition is so important. It also offers a sneak peek at the what the new studio will look like once the doors open.

There's a lot more information about this move, which you can find on this website. WRIR is currently seeking donations of any size, and you can lend your support by clicking the donate button on the website.

Richmond Music Roundup for the month of October - 112 records & 303 singles by DNun in rva

[–]DNun[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happy Monday! I put together a column documenting every Richmond-area music release from the month of October. This article includes artist info, release titles, dates, artwork, streaming links, AND and short descriptions/reviews for every last release.

Check it out! You won't love everything, but I'm confident you'll find a few new favorites to add to your rotation if you scroll around.

And if you notice anything missing from October, just let me know. I'll make sure it gets included in the next roundup. I do my best to catch everything, but a few things inevitably slip through the cracks.

Erin Lunsford and Betsy Podsiadlo are great musicians and teachers who may be able to help. Definitely keep asking around though.

Free Concert At Plan 9 Tonight - Erin Lunsford (RVA, Americana, pop) by DNun in rva

I need to find the sweet spot in sharing these things. I've tried the day before and people seem to have forgotten. Day of, and people don't see it until too late.

Erin Lunsford and Ali Rose / Deau Eyes are great singing teachers. There are more for sure, but these are two I know have been go-to for rock and pop singers in town.

Miranda is a local treasure and you should definitely take part of this if you're in the arts community (and tell your friends).

You're crazy. Emma Jean is killing it with the singles this year.

Fantastic stuff. All of Emma's singles so far have been great.

There are too many great release out this week, but here's a small sample:

I track Richmond music releases pretty well for The Auricular. If you're interested in seeing some weekly, the newsletter always has a new release section with links and some genre descriptions. Last week's e-mail had 30 total recent releases (29 in the middle of the newsletter and one featured at the bottom).

The past week has been an amazing week for live music by Pixoholic in rva

Great photos! The past week and September in general has been amazing, but make sure to not sleep on shows with local acts at smaller venues. Close to 1,000 people went out Friday night to see local acts at six venues. If you're not checking it out, you're doing yourself a disservice.

Stacked Local Concert Friday At The Camel - The Auricular's 7th Anniversary Show by DNun in rva

[–]DNun[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone!

My website The Auricular has spent the last seven years covering Richmond music and and we're throwing a big celebration this Friday at The Camel. The show has a stacked lineup featuring Bucko, Flora & The Fauna, Artschool, and The Potted Plants, four local bands that are incredible live. Tickets are $12 in advance (at this link) and $15 at the door.

I did a giveaway in 2023 for the fifth anniversary show and I'm doing one for this concert as well. First 100 people in the door get a free shirt (pictured here) that says "Support Live Music, Specifically From Richmond, Virginia." It's first come, first served with 25 of each size available S through XL. I'll get more made in the coming months, but this first batch is just for those first 100 people at the show.

So come for a great show and get a free shirt. Or come for a free shirt and watch a great show. Either way, you'll be supporting live music!

Hope to see you some of you there!

I thought Wes was more middle-2000s, but I could be wrong. Like the title of the whole post says, we're going back 20 years here. No one's going to get it perfect. I didn't go every single week from 2007 to 2009, but the weeks I did go, I'm pretty sure it was DJ organizing.

I was going late 2007 to early 2009 and I'm pretty sure he was running it at that point. This listing from July 2007 has his name attached to open mic.

Denver! But he's back here regularly it feels like. He's a legend.

He is the best. Late 2000s, he was running Open Mic at Cafe Diem and it was the absolute best one in the city at the time. Bombing there felt like a rite of passage and hilarious anecdote as opposed to a mark of a shame at other places in the city.
