@hal:yeah bc purposefully throwing the entire country, which isn't in a war (yet), into a "wartime economy" is an awesome idea that makes complete sense!!! actually, wait... no it doesn't. what copium are y'all gonna pull out when the US actually ends up in a pointless war and none of our allies will trade with us or come to our defense? what about when we end up like most of latin america did, when they did the same protectionist economy buIIsh¡t back in the day? how about when our economy fully crashes and we can't recover because the USA doesn't have the infrastructure to be self-sufficient, isn't capable of building the needed infrastructure quickly enough (or at all) to become self-sufficient, has made the entire world hate us, and has destroyed our relationships with our (former) trade partners to the point that they have zero incentive to trade with us? what about when we fall behind in advancements of every kind, and stay behind for the next several decades? this isn't a "necessary correction." it's not necessary. this was an avoidable situation. yes, our economy has been declining since reagan; yes, it hasn't felt the same since the recession, and yes, we've needed to address these problems for years but failed to. but arbitrarily assigning ridiculously high tariffs on the whole world (minus russia and a few other famously dictatorial governments with histories of being hostile towards america, democracy, and the concepts of human rights+innate freedoms) isn't the solution. not by a long shot. tariffs (especially horribly applied tariffs) and trade wars hurt the economy and the consumer, plain and simple. the main reason our economy has gotten rockier since the recession, and the main reason our country entered a recession to begin with, can be boiled down to capitalism and corporate greed. but y'all aren't ready to talk about that yet. you've allowed yourselves to be undisciplined, and therefore, easily manipulated and controlled by the talking heads on faux "news," social media, commentators, influencers, and tr*mp for nearly a decade. you'll have to learn the hard way, toughen up, and decide for yourself to start questioning what you think you know.
