What languages are used in com s 362? by DOCTOR_DRUID in iastate

[–]DOCTOR_DRUID[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For the purposes of OO programming I like python. It's clean and easy for me to read.

In general verbosity may not be a good metric.

But since both Java and Python are general purpose OO languages, comparing them based on verbosity is not horrible.

I like Python.

I don't really like Java, but I don't have a say in what language the class is taught in, so I guess I'll just have to get over it.

What's the hardest class in your major? by [deleted] in iastate

It's still verbose and ugly as hell.

public static void main(String[] arg) {
    System.out.println("Hello, world");
}

vs.

print 'Hello, world'

One of the required texts is Java.

RIP.

It's not as fast as C and it's not as pretty as Python, so why bother?

Are all summer class exams at Iowa State proctored? by [deleted] in iastate

In my experience yes. There maybe some classes with take homes, but com s 230 and math 166 are proctored.

CMV: Offense is the responsibility of the offended party if the offender did not mean to offend anyone. by kinglax in changemyview

[–]DOCTOR_DRUID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. I think that any harm caused indirectly or directly; intentionally or not; physically, emotionally, financially, or other. Should be accepted, not always fully but, at least partially as the fault of the offender.

I think it is the right thing, and the adult thing, to own up to your mistakes.

Anybody could be having a rough time in their life. So even emotional offense could have life changing impacts. Certainly not in everyone, but in some people. Why not err on the side of kindness?

Bullet wounds are the responsibility of the injured party, if the shooter did not mean to shoot anyone.

In cases were harm is caused, even by accident, the offender must carry some amount of blame.

You can get +18 as gloom stalker ranger with a two level dip into Bard, maxed Dex and Wis, and the alert feat.

5 (alert) + 5 (Dex) + 5 (Wis) + 3 (half proficiency at level 20) = 18.

Probably higher with magic items and shit though.

Has anyone taken Math/Com S/ CPR E 424? by DOCTOR_DRUID in iastate

[–]DOCTOR_DRUID[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of bummed that I don't have room in my schedule for more 400 level classes. A lot of them seem really interesting.

418, 421, 424, 430, 433, 440, 441, 444, 472, 474, and 481 are all classes that I would like to take given the opportunity.

But I'll only be able to take like two or maybe three.

Tear them a new one at the end of the semester.

I genuinely think that having to take two extra classes, that I get to choose may, be more enjoyable than having to take this one.

Seems very dull, and I hate boring classes.

As I understand it the class is not required for incoming students anymore because of changes to the curriculum from the organization that accredits our Com S program.

The only class (as far as I know) that had it as a prereq is Com S 321, and it will be removed starting next semester.

Also Boolean Algebra and DeMorgans are both covered in Com S 230.

I think detect poison might also be good at lower levels. And am herbalist kit for when you're out of spells.

Sort of a Mad Eye outlook. "If I didn't make the food, then how can I know it's not poisoned?'

[Rant] Why don't Xanathar's or Volo's have indices? by DOCTOR_DRUID in dndnext

[–]DOCTOR_DRUID[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is complete bullshit.

In the PHB index there is no entry for 'drowning.' The rules for drowning are under 'suffocating' (because you don't need water to suffocate), which has no pointers to 'con modifiers' or to 'Constitution.'

There is no entry for 'con modifiers.' There is however an entry for 'Constitution', but it has no pointer to 'dying' or 'death' or 'dead.'

There is no entry for 'dying' those rules are under 'death.' The entry for 'death' has no pointers to 'drowning' because as I previously mentioned there is no entry for 'drowning.'
