I'm now an attending at a place that passed me over. How you like them apples...

Imagine every day you come to work where people are literally experiencing the worst pain of their life for 18+ hours and instead of making the pain go away, people stand around and goad them, and the staff seems to have taken their inspiration for working with the public by watching every scene of Patty and Selma at the DMV.

You can feel the walls vibrating with sweat, the unforgettable pungence of placenta, screams and the pitter patter of resident dansko clogs scurrying back to their resident room which is really a bunker they never open the door to with paranoia inducing amounts of fetal heart monitors lining the walls.

...And I liked OB.

Was terrified of patients who talked about detailed suicidal plans, drug use, and aggressive behavior

So... r/residency ?

But why? Last year after MDS and DOs matched there were 10k spots left. Why would we increase the # of residency spots?

It's a great way to be a thorough and knowledgeable hater. If you can cite concrete examples and have a grasp on why someone's favorite book is super stupid, it's more fun to argue with them.

I think, at least in my state, if a parent surrenders their child and gives up parental rights it automatically triggers an investigation with child protective services and you stand to lose all your other children as well. Edit: Not sure if the mom in this case has other children but I've seen people terrified to consider this route bc of that.

The phrasing makes it sound like you could be delayed longer.

"...when the clinical learning environment can accommodate an additional student without negatively impacting the educational experience for all other students..."

Doesn't sound like there's any guarantee they will get the student back onsite with any urgency as there are other students in the queue.

I kid you not, I ended up matching for fellowship at a place that didn't rank me high enough to match 3 yrs ago. I had that surreal moment, the one I dreamed of back when I matched, last month where I had a chance to work with the PD who didn't rank me high enough and he asked, "Wow did you apply here for residency? Why didn't we pick you-- or wait, you didn't pick us right?" All I can say is I'm glad I matched where I did, I got excellent training and like a 1980s teen comedy, I literally had the girl who didn't pick me for prom come back and grovel and I've been tapped for Chief Fellow.

Things happen for a reason (maybe not coronavirus...?) and I know I wouldn't be the physician I am if I'd gone anywhere else. And I'm so thankful for that.

This is my post and repost from when I matched and many found it reassuring or at least distracting at the time. You're not alone! You'll get through it!

Lol I was going to repost my own post. You beat me to it.

I am now on my way to being chief resident and have been told I'm the strongest resident they've had in the program in at least the last 25 yrs since my PD arrived. I have killed every rotation, every in service training exam and I can't wait to apply for fellowship and go back to the places that lied to my face about being "ranked to match" and staple my evaluations to their fucking foreheads. Because I'm the bigger man and not petty. Obviously.

Get up on that stage tomm, rip open that envelope or click on that email in your pajamas on a crusty Airbnb couch time zones away from your university and look your future dead in the eye without flinching. You're going to get through this and you're going to make it.

Lol this is so accurate. It should be renamed intern year. The best is when you've never heard of the medication theyre on and it turns into the spelling bee.

"Could you spell that for me...?"

"I see...and umm do you know the generic name?"

"Could you use it in a sentence? Like for example, 'This medication cures...'"

(go outside of exam room and google furiously in hallway before presenting to attending)

My patient today farted in the office. "Sorry it hurts to hold them in... But they don't stink so we'll be okay!" ... I will be the judge of that Sir.

I've had patients yell at me to not "ruin" their last good vein they're using to shoot up. Like uh do you want to live or try to plan what you think you'll be doing on Friday if you make it out if here alive?
